  2. Ah Julie only you could make a gray poupon jar an a thing of beauty....The red onion and white garlic are the perfect team mates. I am sending up prayers for you sweet friend...I am sure that this garage sale will be fabulous. I had one many years ago and did quite well for living in the middle of nowhere :)! Take care and don't work too hard. Hugs!

    1. You always make me feel so good. Thanks Debbie. I am returning the complement but it is from my heart...your botanical watercolors are amazing. Sensitive and accurate.
I will take the prayers. Feeling overloaded and prayers get me balanced. Have a blessed week, my friend.

  3. You always carry your colors through the painting so nicely. There are touches of red in the foreground, leading to the red onion, the stripes on the lid and then touches in the background. Lovely piece!! Good luck with the garage sale!

    1. Nice you notice those things, Joan, Thanks.
I love the way you tucked the apple inside the basket in your new still life. It gave it added depth of field.

  4. What a super little painting this is. I just love those onions and the top of the bottle really shines. Good luck with the sale and everything. Big tip: don't worry and try and enjoy the whole thing! It'll all work out as its meant to, honey.

    1. You have a good eye, Trudy, the top really was the brightest spot - all white and shiny! I lowered my viewpoint to only see it at eye level.
Thanks for the reminder to look on the bright side of all this extra work. I do believe that everything works out the way it is meant to.It has happened many times.
      Have a great day.

  5. The light is ethereal and I love the strategic placement of the radish to pull me into the painting. You have elevated a familiar household item into a work of art.
I organized a garage sale only once and know it is a lot of work. I hope you have many of great sales!

    1. Lovely complement, thank you, Celia.
I have never done a sale and with all the years of stuff I have accumulated... it will be a big one. I still have a couple of weeks!
      Still emoting for that plate!

  6. This really cuts the mustard! I have no idea where that saying comes from but I think it fits in this situation.
Some things I've learned from yard sales; both having them and attending them are - first, smile at people and make them feel welcome. Say hello and welcome at every opportunity. Don't hesitate to talk about the object the person is looking at and ask them questions about themselves and how what they are looking at would be of use to them. People like it when you take interest in how your item would best serve their needs. Make items easy to see; large items at the back and smaller items at the front of tables. Stuff like that; you know what I'm saying. I find items sell better when there is a price on them; people don't like to ask how much you want for something. And, don't be afraid to say "no" when someone tries to talk you down in price. Every year we have one big season-opener and make over $400 on small stuff I've collected all winter at auction box lots. After gleaning out stuff I sell on Ebay for the big bucks, that is. This year we did so well at the yard sale I packed up everything left for next year and will add to it over the winter. I know you aren't doing yard sales regularly but I think if you are having only one or two it's just as important to pull out all the stops to be successful because it's a lot of work. I wish I could be there to give you a hand. Well, I hope that helps.

    1. LOL...cuts the mustard. Good one!
Thanks for taking the time to pass on what sounds like really good advice. What a good and kind friend you are and I really, really appreciate you.. I have two more weeks to get it all together. I have a couple of painting friends who are coming at weekend to help price my art stuff and another friend next week for the house stuff.
They go to sales but have not had one.
      Thanks again.

  7. Another beautiful painting Julie....SO colorful and I love the way the light is hitting the vegetables and jar of Poupon. You are amazing and I love your work with every painting you do. As far as garage sales...I love going to them for the frames and any other art supplies but give my goodies away before I can sell them....lol

    1. Happy you like it, Hilda. Thanks. I think your new landscape is stunning. The colors are glorious!
I have always donated before but I have way too much stuff and some artists may want frames, etc, or still life objects. Thats before the house stuff!

  8. What a great painting, Julie! I love the Gray Poupon jar, the Gray Poupon mustard - even the old Gray Poupon commercial. Now I have a Gray Poupon painting to add to the list.
Sending you VERY good thoughts during your clean-up and sale. The more you purge (one way or the other), the happier you will be during and after your move. Best of luck!!

    1. I woke up thinking about you this morning, Chris and wondering if you will get the house and how soon you will know. Fingers, toes etc, crossed!
Another friend said the more you purge the better it will be. I am listening.

  9. Interesting grouping of foods, containers and implements for meal preparation, Julie. Love the shapes, too, of foods, lids and containers. By giving just a hint of the letters G and R I can tell it's Grey Poupon!

Good luck with your sale! It's a bit of work, yes, but you meet some interesting people. Hope you'll have some "helpers" with you. It really aides with covering all bases! Lots of plastic bags, money for making change and a ruler or tape measure. You never know!!

    1. I would never have thought about the plastic bags and change...thanks, Carol. I do have a son and his wife coming to help and another friend and husband to man the money box. I just went and found a tape measure and put it in a box marked GS. it is the official start!
      Have a wonderful week.

  10. Slovenia this Julie. Such a clever idea. You're right about some jars or bottles, you just need a suggestion for people to recognize the subject.

Garage sale advice, I hate it when I go to a garage sale and there are no prices. I don't want to haggle on every item. Tell me what you want. The exception would be to have tables with $1, $5 or whatever price, everything on that table is $1, etc. blue stickers on $1 items, yellow for $5 items, etc.

    Good luck!

  11. hubby has never seen Gray Poupon lol not really a thing around here even tho you can get it.

yard sale advice, make sure its legal in your area if no one has mentioned it before, different places have laws about garage/yard sales

and hopefully you make some money, means more art supplies :p

  12. Great advice about checking the city codes regarding yard sales. Thanks, Jennifer.
Hope you are on the mend. Your fabulous drawing of the head of the bird was so detailed it must have been done with your right hand...right?

    1. I know some places can be really picky about yard sales so def worth checking :)

yes, the etching was def done with my right hand. no way ever would I try to hold a sharp pointy thing to do that with my left hand lol thats just a big accident waiting to happen :p

  13. A gorgeous still life in every way! I love it all, but that red onion is a standout -- don't red onions just beckon you to paint them? Again, the whole is much more than the sum of its parts, but you've done every bit of this painting proud!

No advice on your yard sale, but I'm sure that your lovely warm personality will carry the day and assure you lots of sales. Very good luck!!

    1. I have painted this jar for many years, Helene, and when I looked back I noticed I usually put an onion with it. White and red. I have taken this one further and have started on a larger one and am liking it.
I do not know how warm my personality will be on the actual day .LOL
