Roses and Cherries...

Roses and Cherries
8x8" oil on canvas SOLD

Artist Note.
I made a video of painting
this piece. It was a good one
because it showed the
struggle in the middle.
I know you are all
only too familiar with that!

I emerged victorious,
quite thrilled, and guess what...
the guy with the camera
had it all out of focus!
To say I was bummed
is an understatement.

The bad luck Video story continues,
I have had three videos made
this year by three different
video experts and not one has
been usable.

Maybe I will have success in 2016
I made my Fracturing video
for Daily Paintworks
myself. I just set up a camera
and went for it.
BUT... I had a
lot of requests
to show my palette at the
same time and that
created the problem.
I do not
know how to do that myself.

Enough of all that...

Here's to a wonderful 2016 for all of us.
May our supportive bond of blogging
friendships continue with the
 stimulation and encouragement
that is so special.
I appreciate every one of you,
and wish only the best for you all

  1. Your fracturing video is the best - palette or not! So sorry to only offer encouragement, no video experience here.
Please don't give up. What a treat it will be to watch a master at work!!

Have a safe, happy evening, Julie. And I'm wishing you your most awesome new year yet!!!

  3. Sorry about the video filming, Julie. The idea sounds wonderful, though, so maybe another time. Your painting is stunning. The rose in the lower middle had wonderful light and shadows. Love the sharp contrast on that one petal on the left. Also, gorgeous neutrals on the tabletop.
Certainly, I wish you a spectacular new year with wondrous art opportunities!!

  15. May 2016 bring you a successful video! If you want to try another on your own, could you borrow a second video camera, point one camera at your palette and one on your painting and "splice" the video together afterwards? ... Asks the fan who has never taken more than an iPhone video in her life, much less "spliced" a thing! šŸ˜œ

    1. Sounds easy, but it isn't for me. It is the time it takes to learn the stitching together of the two videos. I have not figured it out yet and I have tried. Oh boy...have I tried!
Thanks for the visit, and is it Kris like on your blog or Dana?
I love the abstracted faces you do. And the colors you choose are wonderful.

  17. This is so lush and lovely. I admire every bit of it, Julie. How disappointing your video didn't work out, but as others have said, please try again. (And it looks as if doing it yourself is the best alternative.) Carol Marine has done Artbytes with palette and painting side by side, perhaps she'd share her expertise? Regardless, watching you create something as exquisite as this painting would be a delicious treat. Yum!
As always you set a fine example to get back into the daily painting routine. Happy New Year!

It is the editing to match the two videos I cannot do.

Hope you are proud of your still life - I think it is gorgeous.

  19. Wow this one is a bit special I just love it.

I had no idea of how to paint until I watched the videos of the Will Kemp Art Studio... so I can safely say a good video is worth it's weight in gold, it's how I learnt, albeit I'm still a novice.

  20. very pretty painting :)

use a wide angle lens with the camera to get the palette and painting in the shot? one camera on the painting, one on the palette and edit shots together? zoom out to get both in the shot?

    1. Thanks for the advice. I have not tried a wide angled lens. Will let you know how it goes.

  23. This is a heartmelter alright! Re the video...I went back and looked at your fracturing video and I think pulling the camera back until the palette is visible and dropping the camera down about 6 inches would get the job done. Won't be quite so close up, but by choosing 'full screen' mode while they're watching will provide as much detail as in your current video.

  32. OMG IO love this. When I first saw it on my phone the pic didn't come up, so I got on my desktop and it takes my breath away. I have found your same problem about showing my palette in videos I take. This may not work for you, but I put my paints on a large foam plate so I can show it to the camera as I mix or paint. Not perfect, but it works.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That is a good idea. There was a painter who had a big wooden palette (on TV.) I always wondered how she didn't get paint all over herself! I guess I could try that. A foam plate may not be firm enough for palette knife work.
