Apache Autumn

Apache Autumn

6x6 in oil on canvas panel $110. SOLD

Artist Note

I recently joined
a group of
painters
who belong to
"Lets Paint New Mexico"
This is my first painting.

Here is the photo
submitted to all of us.
We are free to paint
our own interpretation.

The group was started
by a wonderful artist
I have followed for years
They  are on Facebook
and their website is

I enjoy the variety of
the different artist' styles
and the non- competitive
attitude of their goal -
accepting the challenge to create
a piece of art based on a
photo of New Mexico.

Sounds like the type of
stress free challenge
I will enjoy because
New Mexico is visually
gorgeous and is not called
The Land of Enchantment
for nothing.

I don't think you have to
live in New Mexico to
 participate, but it helps
being familiar
with the area.
I have painted in the
Bosque del Apache
many times before.

  1. What a wonderful choice of scene! Rich, creamy color and hearty texture! New Mexico definitely is unique in its skies, vegetation, light and history. I just love it, and you have the perfect place to spread your art wings!

    1. Thats a very nice observation, Carol. You always write interesting and astute comments. When you were teaching did you get so focused on the particular lessons that it was good to have a pleasant interruption? That is what I am hoping this group will give me.

    Gros bisous ♡

Hello dear Julie, A high light painting ... I love the small blue accents sparingly applied. They provide a very nice contrast with the fall foliage. I congratulate you and I am sure that you are happy to have joined a group of artists. Kisses ♡

    1. Thanks, Libby.
I am hoping that I will find enough of the photos inspire me to break my regular schedule. I do not paint from photos very well, but I have painted enough of New Mexico to feel I can do it okay.
I am really enjoying your series inspired by Hoover Dam. You are generous sharing your process and ruminations.

    2. Thanks Julie. I think I know what you mean about the photos-having a connection of some sort to the painting. You have a feel for your landscape just like you said so I suspect you will do well:) Looking forward to the results!

  10. As is the case with all your landscapes, this has wonderful energy and vitality, as well as an apparent spontaneity. I say 'apparent' because I know there is a wealth of skill and technique underlying that illusion of ease.
