Re-do
Farmers Market#15
9x8"
Artist Note.
I was honored by the World Bank Group
to be asked for another one of my
Farmers Market series
to be used on the cover or their
Global Agriculture brochure.
BUT...
I had not taken a high enough
resolution image.. RATS!
What a lesson...and a reminder
to ALWAYS take a
proper image with my trusty Nikon
and not
just the iphone one.
I really wanted
them to be able to use it so I
painted it all over again.
I found it is impossible
to get exactly the
same with the
fracturing technique but similar
colors and placements
turned out a decent copy.
Fortunately they liked it and
I will have the pleasure of knowing
my painting will grace the cover
again in 2017
If you would like to see the first one
Congratulations! Lovely painting(s)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jean. I really like the way you used a warm and cool marker on your new torso drawing.
DeleteCongratulations! I can see why they would want this beautiful piece with all your wonderful texture and color. That is a good reminder to all of us who conveniently use our iPhones to take photos. It just isn't the same.
ReplyDeleteYes - I got the iphone 6 thinking it would do the trick, but apparently not! As I said, back to the trusty Nikon.
DeleteYou amaze me with your output Joan and I am loving the variety of subjects.
Well done, Julie! I remember this one well and this time around is as good as the last. I have never taken a decent photograph in my life!!
ReplyDeleteSo pleased for you, smiling all day thinking about it
Good memory John. I really enjoyed the FM series and continue to sketch them here.
DeleteYou are a good friend indeed to really share in my pleasure. Thank you.
Well, I think the World Bank Group has very good taste, Julie! Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteLOL - thanks Chris. Taste goes with fruits and veggies doesn't it!
DeleteYou have two wonderfully, atmospheric landscapes as well as the value maps. So different and both types so powerful.
Congratulations, how wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carol. Yes, I am rather pleased.
Deletehappy you survived the storm. Did another one hit?
Of course I love the painting Julie and good lesson...get that photo correct the first time. I think many of us take the easy iPhone way out.
ReplyDeleteI thought the 6SiPhone would do it - tripod and all, absolutely fine for the web but apparently not for the for the publishing departments. Good lesson.
DeleteLove the new landscape - hurrah, you are out painting plein air.
What an honor! Your work is amazing, high or low res! I am lazy about taking decent photos! Good reminder Julie. You never know what will come up with your work!
ReplyDeleteHi Kaethe - I never figure you for lazy with all you do. Good to know you are normal! That is one powerful little sketch you have done. I like the way you linked the shadows,
DeleteCongratulations Julie! I have to admit I take photos of my finished paintings with my phone....why? It takes such clear pictures...lol. I remember this painting and love both paintings!!!
ReplyDeleteYes - the pictures are clear on the phone and are perfect unless they are going to be used for a larger format. I had no idea the quality was so different. I used
Deletea tripod too, but the phones automatic focus is the problem.
Love your new portrait. Fabulous job on the eyes...you nailed the angle of the spheres of the corneas.
Sorry to bother you for advice, Julie, but I really like the layout of your blog and want to copy it, but cannot get blogger to let me show my posts the way you do.
ReplyDeleteIf I have it set to simple posts, I can only see one post at a time, so people have to search for my previous posts If I set it to a dynamic view, I can see all of the posts, but the sidebar disapears and people have to pull it from the right side of the page and click to view.
I see that you have the posts and the sidebar visible at the same time, but I cannot work out how to do that. Is there a simple way for me to set up my blog like your, please?
Never a bother, Hani. My blog is in the older "classic" group not dynamic view. You gain things in the dynamic I cannot do.
DeleteI am a creature of habit so prefer a tried and true format.
I see lots of things I would like to do or try, but it all boils down what works for me in the time I have.
Did you set up side bars in layout? You enter all the things you would like there individually. Enter "sidebar right" and and see what happens.
So happy for you. You both deserved it and earned it with another painting!
ReplyDeleteNice of you to say that, Helen. Thank you.
DeleteIt is neat seeing your different tree in the series.
Hurray for you, Julie! Well-deserved, I must say.
ReplyDeleteToo awful that you'd not taken a hi-res image -- aargh! Happily, talented woman that you are, you saved the day by re-painting the subject. But I know you must have been kicking yourself. I've actually forgotten on occasion to even take a photo before a piece went off to a new home. Now my camera is beside my easel all the time! Congrats, Julie!
Thank you, Helene, for a lovely and heartwarming comment.
DeleteIt took several hours to repaint that little sucker but worth it for the end goal. To be hones I believed all the hype about the iphone I have, but apparently the automatic focus does not cut it enough for publishing. There is more to it than meets the eye. The phone is more than good enough for the web.
Congratulation on your beautiful cup painting being sold. No surprise there as it is really well painted.
Congratulations Julie!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kim.
DeleteI really enjoyed your top ten list of favorite items relating to your art life.Thank you.
Here is the link for the start of it if anyone didn't see it.

WOW! So exciting and frustrating all rolled into one. Very good lesson! I love your farmer's market series because you know Jim and I are also farm marketers. So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt's great to know you and Jim are Farm Marketers. VERY worthwhile. How you do as much as you do amazes me.
Deletelove farmer's markets. you did a gorgeous one!
ReplyDeleteI always appreciate your visits, Lavon. Thank you and Bless YOU!
ReplyDeleteCongrats and good for you for repainting it :) lot of work and lesson learned, and its always a good idea to sometimes repaint/rework art. Sometimes you can greatly improve a piece, of course it could go completely downhill too :p
ReplyDeleteYou always make me laugh - yes, downhill more than uphill, for sure.
DeleteHappy sketching. Getting closer and closer to the end of your 365 goal
making people laugh is a good thing :D
DeleteAh Julie congratulations - your art certainly deserves to be front and foremost. Have always enjoyed your Farmer's Market series. You capture the feel of this busy place as well as the sunshine. Which I need to see since we are in the darker months here. Hope you are having a lovely week. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteDarker months... I think I noticed it staying light for a wee bit longer today, I think I read that after this storm you have nicer weather coming along. Looking forward to more beautiful photos and words on your inspiring blog. Blessings, my dear friend.
DeleteYou absolutely deserve it and this painting is gorgeous , so busy and free and yet everything is very clear !
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jane, yes, holding it all together is the key!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful, double portrait of father and son you have done.
It moved me.
Frustrating! But your results are beautiful. Congratulations on another cover. That is a win!
