Threesome
9"x7" watercolor on Yupo SOLD
Artist Note
This a piece from
my Avian show
last November.
I loved doing it.
I am happy to report that
the yard/garage sale went very well.
I was well-prepared, thanks
to the helpful hints from
my blogger friends.
It was even fun... due to
several fabulous friends
who turned up to help
with
laughter and energy.
We didn't have one
difficult customer and
very few "negotiators".
I would say that my
first and last
yard sale
showed me how
really nice most people are.
I feel blessed!

Loose yet amazing details. Fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThanks AK. I love your loose and beautiful colors with watercolor.
DeleteMost people are really nice but all it takes is one to ruin your day. I'm glad it was a success, that you cleared out everything you wanted to be rid of, and you have it classified as 'first and last!'
ReplyDeleteI love everything you do on Yupo. It's odd to work on, but has it's own charm.
It has its own "charm" - for sure!
DeleteI find it makes me solve problems - and that is always a good learning experience. The unpredictable is another aspect I like.
I forgot to say how much I admire what you did with copying a really good painting. A sure fire way to learn about color and values.
DeleteSo glad your sale was a success! I know what you mean when you say that this was your "first and last" sale. They are exhausting, for sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the look at the beautiful oldie but goodie piece on Yupo. Always a treat, Julie!
Thanks, Chris. I was laughing when I saw "bad hair day" - at least she has lots of hair. A bad hair day is my short, grey hair first thing in the morning! Your painting is beautiful.
DeleteI love this painting, so beautiful!! Congratulations on your yard sale success!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Celia, I love paintings nests so it is a genuine treat for me.
DeleteYour radicchio leaf is a stunner. A simple subject, yes, but the way it is painted takes it into a whole different level.
Lovely art work, Julie. Love all the "divisions" created with multiple layers, "wipe-offs" and "happy accidents." Yupo is such an interesting, challenging and surprising surface.
ReplyDeleteGlad your garage sale was very successful! Sounds like it was fun as well as helpful in meeting your "reducing inventory" goal. Hope you have a bit of time to set those weary feet up and chill. Good for you!!
Happy you notice the qualities that come with Yupo. The word "surprising" is a good one.
DeleteNope - cannot rest yet. I had to make room for the stuff from home studio to move into my new studio. Then I have to clean up the home studio and make decisions on what to do with things there is no room for. All good in the end but I think there has to be so many artists in Houston who have lost their stuff that I have on hand.
Always so good to read your insightful comments, dear Carol, thank you.
Dear Julie great to read how well your yard sale went. I am sure there were some real treasures to be found also. Love this painting. You are such a wonderful artist friend. This painting on Yupo shows your expertise. I know it is a challenge to work on this type of paper. Have a beautiful day friend. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteYes - some treasures I hated to part with but downsizing means getting rid of so much. What the kids do not ...want goes out!
DeleteI found your post very meaningful, Debbie. The people of Houston are an inspiration actually with the grace and resilience they have shown.
Now we are seeing the new one called Irma, developing. Prayers started for less destruction than what they expect.
Looking up.
Good things come to good people and second, beautiful color combinations in this painting. Lovely Julie.
ReplyDeleteYou are such a dear - thank you, Blanche,
DeleteHow are you doing? You know I am waiting...waiting...
This looks phenomenal Julie, yes of course, you will attract only goodness!
ReplyDeletePhenomenal! You make me blush... but I love it and thank you.
DeleteHope you are doing better each day and happily painting landscapes you love.
What a great painting combining the elements of representation and abstraction! I love your nests and love this! Congrats on getting more things out of your way during this transition!
ReplyDeleteI like the term "Transition" instead of Moving/Change/Loss. You have helped me with that one, Kaethe. I have been blessed to have a dream studio at home and for 16 years it has been a wonderful womb that nourished me. Now I will transition to my next stage and it will be just right!
DeleteSo glad everything went so well! Hope you sold a ton! Love your next paintings, this one especially.
ReplyDeleteIncredible how much we sold. I had no idea the $'s would add up like that BUT...never again!
DeleteLOL - I am getting so I can read auto word...I knew next was nest.
I enjoyed watching your video.
Glad it all went well! I must be brave and try Yupo!
ReplyDeleteI think you would enjoy Yupo, Kim. With your skill and ability with color it would be fascination to see what you create.
DeleteI love the abstract quality in this painting. The round shape against the vertical lines. Do you know where your new nest will be?
ReplyDeleteMe too - I have always like the round nest juxtaposition between the limbs of trees. Yes, we are moving in town to a smaller retirement place with an indoor pool so my hubby can swim daily. He had a bad back and swimming helps.
DeleteLove your video and seeing your studio.. You are a natural!
Glad the yard sale went well and that you had friends to help you through it. Love seeing this!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Joan - I was just admiring your drawing of the cute kid from behind. So universal - I love it!
DeleteFabulous piece , love the colors and the freedom. Blanche said some clever words....
ReplyDeleteNice of you to agree with Blanche. Thanks, Jane. I did enjoy your still life with the red teapot spout ready to pour. Good to have you back in the blogging world.
Deleteglad the sale went well :) and you can use the money to buy new stuff after you move ;)
ReplyDeleteI like your positive attitude, Jennifer.
DeleteBut I REALLY like your fabulous Falcon drawing. Oh, that wonderful EYE!
thanks Julie :) wish I could work a bit faster on it tho
DeleteLove this painting Julie. Your yupo paintings are all amazing and Congratulations on selling it! As far as the garage sale... I don't imagine having difficult customers when they're dealing with you! You definitely have the personality to sell anything!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood to know you like it, dear, Hilda.
DeleteI know you must be relating to the hurricane victims after living through one yourself.
Thanks for the kind words.
I've been having troubles getting my blog commenting to post but at any rate, love this and am jealous of all those who were able to get in on your sale.been thinking of you with this big move and wishing you all the best!
ReplyDeleteThis little bird nest is lovely and does look quite fun to paint... challenging too.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the garage sale! I don't have the energy anymore for hosting a sale, but I've been slowly trying to simplify my life by culling out stuff I don't use. I still have a long way to go.
