Looking toward the Jemez, NM.
6”x8” oil on canvas panel. SOLD
Artist Note
Like in the previous post,
this is another “long view.”
This time it is a high dessert
area between
Santa Fe and Albuqerque.
I love the drive. The views are amazing.
and throughout the many years of traveling
I have never got tired of it.
This was painted on a overcast day.
The view was so vast I could see it raining
in several areas at the same time.
Sometimes the rain never touched the ground.
Interesting ground shadows
were cast from the clouds
Best of all... there were no trees to block
the beautiful long view!!
Your color's never cease to amaze. Love the painting and color combination. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks Blanche. I find you have a lovely use of color, also. Kindred spirits!
DeleteBeautiful, tells a story. You captured soooo much in that small canvas. Brings me home.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jo. I enjoyed visiting your blog and seeing your great little sketches.
DeleteThis is such a fine illustration of wonderful muted greens and grey-blues. Another exemplary lesson on color from an accomplished instructor! Thanks, Julie, for sharing your experience with us all.
ReplyDeleteYOu are always so nice with the perfect comment to make me feel good. Thank you Helene. Are you working on another figurative piece or something else?
DeleteLove the strong, deep colors against the lighter grasses. Seeing these magnificent long views makes me feel more than a little insignificant.
ReplyDeleteGood choice of word...insignificant. I agree.
DeleteHappy to see you posting another painting on your blog. Fabulous Fox.
Julie this painting makes me just want to come see the beauty that you capture on your canvas. Gorgeous in every way. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteCommon down. Would love to show you my neck of the woods. You would have to bring the dogs too because I feel I know them.
DeleteWhat a stunning landscape and a loooong and beautiful view ! Many years ago I passed through Albuqerque and still have in my eyes the immense landscape and the beauty of it.
ReplyDeleteYOu must have been going to the Grand Canyon or California. ' what gets most people out to Albuquerque. Immense is the perfect word.
DeleteLove your abstract...I saw so many neat things in it.
Oh Julie! What a beautiful painting.... I absolutely love this part of our Country. I can see for miles .... and Congratulations on selling this!!!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you Hilda. Are you recovered fully yet? Big get well hugs
DeleteThis is lovely :D reminds me a lot of out West in Canada, you can see for miles and miles
ReplyDeleteYou can see for miles in Scotland too but have to be in the right spot. When I lived in England we would walk on the Moors with not a tree in sight and I think that is why it was so easy to fall in love with New Mexico. Loved seeing your new piece and great horse sketches.
Deleteyou can see for miles where we are since we are on the top of a hill, its great because there are hills all around us :) and its a great view from my studio window :)
DeleteBravo Julie this is a very beautiful landscape painting with so nice colours !!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I clicked a very similar composition right in the middle of here in Muscat and thought I would paint!
ReplyDeleteStunningly beautiful!
I love when you can find spots like this where the view continues on and on and on! This has do much depth to it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely painting and I am happy I have seen this drive for myself now. It is beautiful. You know your landscape so well. Miss you friend.
ReplyDeleteSo lovely.
