Stacked Lemons
8"x 8" oil on canvas board SOLD
Artist Note
These lemons were fresh when I started
and rather shriveled by the time I finished.
Doesn't matter...I still enjoyed time
with the paint!
I remember doing a whole series
with lemons
a few years ago
and some of them were very difficult.
Guess what...they are still not easy.
Interesting how painting is like that.
Enjoy a wonderful week.

Hello there! I love painting lemons also however I don't recall any looking quite this beautiful. Here I go back to the canvas. Will start posting again soon.
ReplyDeleteHi Blanche...I am so delighted to hear you are (or will be) painting again and I look forward to seeing a new post.
DeleteThe eternal appeal of still life......well done, Julie.
ReplyDeleteThanks such a lot David. Love seeing all the Snow Buntings in your new post.
DeleteJulie seems great to me, regardless of the time it will take you to paint it, the end result is what counts and is very good.
ReplyDeleteHappy week.
Greetings.
Ah...you experience it(time) too I can tell.
DeleteThank you.
Love your sky in your new painting. Blue and orange harmony at its best!
Beautiful work. I am especially drawn to the background colors.
ReplyDeleteThanks Debra. I love the beautiful neutrals in your new painting.
DeleteWhen I clicked on this painting and enlarged it, that gorgeous background behind the lemons caused me to salivate!! I kid you not. And the leaves! So gently folded and beautiful. Not easy, but sooooo worth it!
ReplyDeleteHi friend...nice of you to let me know you like it- thanks.
DeleteLove the beautiful Northwest view you posted.
Hope all is well and you are enjoying life. Hugs.
I always admire your paintings of lemons, Julie, and this is no exception. I find both lemons and oranges, in whole form, tricky to depict (segments are a bit easier) -- perhaps it's because I find that their colors are easy to paint too vividly, and their textures are subtle as well. In any case, you got it!
ReplyDeleteI agree - Yellow is tricky. Paint brands differ so If I was successful with one brand and along comes trying to do the same with another brand...forget it!
DeleteThat is one beautiful photo of you I saw on FB. I am not on there often but I am pretty sure that is where I saw it.
Love this painting, Julie. I can't tell you how many bouquets of eucalyptus I've painted that have dried up, because of one reason or another I couldn't finish it soon enough. Very frustrating!!! Hope you are getting back into the painting mode. I love following you!
ReplyDeleteHi Karin...happy you understand. I have only ever painted those leaves already dried. What is the difference? Color?
DeleteI like how you grouped your top Instagram paintings.
Julie just gorgeous - the background is a perfect backdrop for those lemons. The slice in the foreground directs my eye to move around and enjoy the lovely colours. Hope all is well with you. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteNice to know you like this. Thanks dear friend.
DeleteLoved seeing the two dogs in your new post. They are magnificent.
I can never get enough lemons, Julie! Beautifully laid out with brushwork that sizzles!
ReplyDeleteHello Carol...I still visit to see if you have posted anything. Are you painting or creating at all?
DeleteMiss you. Thanks for the lovely comment.
ooh so bright and the other colours used dont take away from the lemons :)
ReplyDeleteshrivelled lemons could make and interesting painting :)
Shriveled means also brown lemons. No beauty in that. So much ugliness in world I decided to go for beauty!
Deletestill can be beauty in death, just a different type of beauty :)
DeleteMmmm...I'm imagining the fragrance of these while you were painting them. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteI think you are amazing with all you have got going on with your poor hubby that you find time to pay a complement. Bless you Joan and please know if I lived closer I would be there for you.
ReplyDeleteI was SO sure I commented on this amazing piece, Julie!!! I LOVE this ...I absolutely pucker up seeing this. Another favorite painting!!!
