Playtime!

This is my friend's  granddaughter.
I painted this from a photograph which,
as soon as I saw it,  knew I had to ask
permission to paint her.
It turned out well so I thank my
friend and her daughter for allowing me to
publish it on my blog.
What a lovely shaped head she has.
Totally relaxed she is completely
involved with brushing
the shocking pink mane of the yellow
animal she is holding. My own, 5 year
old granddaughter has a collection of them
so you would think I would know its name.
Just been informed:  seahorse from
the mylittlepony collection.

      Nice of you to say that because when I was developing my technique I had to make sure I could paint any subject matter with it.
      Your landscape today is so beautiful. I love the palette and loose brushwork

      I always feel a glow from your words, dear Rita. You have been a good and loyal blogging friend for a long time and I place a high value on that. I admire your adventurous and creative spirit with these exciting new paintings you are doing. The ones on the last DPW Challenge were amazing.

      Thanks so much, Hilda. I fell in love with it too and am proud of the results. I have to do more figurative stuff and it helps when you have a beautiful image to start with.

      I am thrilled you like it. I am protecting the privacy of the little beauty in question - in this day and age you have to be careful.
      Thanks for the answer below providing the name of the toy. I remember my granddaughter a couple of years ago when we would be shampooing a lot of these little ponies while she in the bathtub! Happy memories!

    What a lovely little child. Her head is shaped wonderfully as you mentioned and her round little cheek is very sweet! Your techniques married up very nicely with a child portrait.

      Thank you, Libby. It was difficult at first for me to do the figure in fracturing. Not when painting large, but on these little canvases. One fracture in the wrong place and a head could be gone!
      There is a certain clarity and calmness with your new painting which takes me into a meditative state.

      She is lovely - thanks Helen. I cannot take credit for the cropping because I copied it from a photo and just made some very slight changes. Of course an artist took the photo and that is what made it so appealing I am sure.
