Playtime
8x6in oil on canvas NFS
This is my friend's granddaughter.
I painted this from a photograph which,
as soon as I saw it, knew I had to ask
permission to paint her.
It turned out well so I thank my
friend and her daughter for allowing me to
publish it on my blog.
What a lovely shaped head she has.
Totally relaxed she is completely
involved with brushing
the shocking pink mane of the yellow
animal she is holding. My own, 5 year
old granddaughter has a collection of them
so you would think I would know its name.
Just been informed: seahorse from
the mylittlepony collection.
Beautiful. Your style adapts so well to any subject and adds beauty and awe.
ReplyDeleteNice of you to say that because when I was developing my technique I had to make sure I could paint any subject matter with it.
DeleteYour landscape today is so beautiful. I love the palette and loose brushwork
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful be your friend, dear Julie! I'm so glad you caught with your art this wonderful moment!
Warm thoughts,Rita.
I always feel a glow from your words, dear Rita. You have been a good and loyal blogging friend for a long time and I place a high value on that. I admire your adventurous and creative spirit with these exciting new paintings you are doing. The ones on the last DPW Challenge were amazing.
DeleteBeautifully painted, Julie! I love this one!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Hilda. I fell in love with it too and am proud of the results. I have to do more figurative stuff and it helps when you have a beautiful image to start with.
Deleteit is so beautiful, im still speechless everytime i think about it¨!
ReplyDeletebtw, the toy is a "sea horse" of the colorful mylittlepony family :-)
DeleteI am thrilled you like it. I am protecting the privacy of the little beauty in question - in this day and age you have to be careful.
DeleteThanks for the answer below providing the name of the toy. I remember my granddaughter a couple of years ago when we would be shampooing a lot of these little ponies while she in the bathtub! Happy memories!
What a lovely little child. Her head is shaped wonderfully as you mentioned and her round little cheek is very sweet! Your techniques married up very nicely with a child portrait.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Libby. It was difficult at first for me to do the figure in fracturing. Not when painting large, but on these little canvases. One fracture in the wrong place and a head could be gone!
DeleteThere is a certain clarity and calmness with your new painting which takes me into a meditative state.
Love that off guard moment! The colors used even say "youth".
ReplyDeleteHi dean - love your bird. The way you used the red is wonderful.
DeleteThanks for the comment.
Beautiful portrait. Such effortless cropping. And you are so right about her face. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteShe is lovely - thanks Helen. I cannot take credit for the cropping because I copied it from a photo and just made some very slight changes. Of course an artist took the photo and that is what made it so appealing I am sure.
DeleteYour friendly face cow is still making me smile.
Ohh...Nice to see your blog. I want to know more about your fracturing technique..your work is beautiful
ReplyDeleteNice to see you too, Page. Pleased you like my work. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI love the still life you did. Colors are so yummy!
Lovely. Julie, so enjoying receiving your blog. Brightens up my email!
ReplyDeletePleased to hear it and I thank you. Your
DeleteTime painting is so good and fun too.
she's sooo cute!
ReplyDeleteHi Mayra - loved your post and thanks for the mention but want to say your Altered Matisse is fabulous.
DeleteThat's a very cute one, both painting and subject. I hope you have had a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteShe is adorable isn't she? Mu weekend has been a great painting one so far. I am preparing for a show in May.
DeleteYour valentine cupcake was fun and I love this new abstract with blueberries.
This just makes me smile! Lovely, Julie!
ReplyDeleteJulie a wonderful subject. Love the tilt of her head and the three spots of pink you used. Really beautiful. Have a blessed week.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Debbie. She is a little beauty and so feminine. Love the "corner story" on your blog.
DeleteWhat a charming child painting..you really captured her "sweetness"!
ReplyDeleteAmazing how much story and feeling you can pack into such a little painting. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog too. I don't know how you find the time to do it all!
ReplyDeleteAdorable Julie. You really captured the intensity of the little girls play, so sweet . xx
ReplyDeleteMy own daughters (now in their late 20's) also loved those My Little Pony dolls. This painting is just gorgeous, Julie! I so love all your work!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, with just the right amount of light on her cheek. Wel done my friend
ReplyDeleteAdorable!!!
ReplyDeleteSomehow you captured this child's personality without overdoing it...tough thing to do! Thank you for taking the time to comment on my painting.
