Double Beauty

Double Beauty
6"x6" oil on canvas panel. $110.
Purchase HERE

Artist Note

The last roses of the year.
A warm protected spot
produced an extra gift of beauty
during this busy time.

My son came to help with sorting
and moving all my art books.
A huge job as most had to be
brought from the studio
and into the house...
up and down a flight of stairs.

He said he felt he had moved the
Library of Congress!

Anyway, they have been
all thinned down
to just under a hundred
of those friends I feel
 I cannot live without.
Downsizing bit by bit!!

    1. Hi Celia, thanks for the kind words and am happy you laughed.
He has a great sense of humor and is fun to have around. Unfortunately he lives a six hour drive away. I really enjoyed seeing the paintings you did on your trip to Greece. The last one of the rock is my favorite and I adore the colors.

  2. Beautiful roses. What a lovely painting. And I'm so glad you've got help. I hate to think how many books I'd have to get rid of it we moved. Last time I gave hundreds away and have ended up re buying many! I do hope that doesn't happen to you! They weren't art books though...

    1. Hello, dear Trudy - it is good to hear we share a love of books. I am not surprised though. What type of reading do you enjoy?

    2. All sorts of anything well written, really, Julie, except horror and sci-fi and fantasy. For some reason I can't be doing with them! I love good biographies, as well. Just plain nosy, that's me!

  3. These roses are SO beautiful Julie! Absolutely perfect! I'm trying to downsize as well and I have so many books as well but I'm not ready to let go!!! Not just yet so I think we all feel the same! Lol.... letting go is not easy so all we can do is piece by piece!❤️

    1. Another book lover...so I know you understand. Reading an art book on the computer doesn't quite cut it for me. Some books I have read so many times I know exactly where to go for the best parts.
Your new painting of the baskets of fruits and veggies is a winner...I love the truck too!

  4. So glad the last of the roses stayed so we could enjoy this lovely painting, Julie!

Love your son's sense of humor! We all need that during a move.

    1. Bice to hear from you. Chris. I think of your move and I am still at the packing and keeping the house "all picked up" stage. We did have a rush with a buyer and contract but we had to withdraw from it so I feel I can start to breath. Nice to be able to have one last Thanksgiving here.
Your batik is quite wonderful and I enjoyed the video. Like yours better!

  5. A LOVELY painting, Julie! Looks like you painted these at a peak time. They look so fresh with the petals open to showcase that yummy color in the center.
Hang in there, my friend. So glad you have helpers to lighten the load.

    1. Thanks, Carol. I think they were a day past peak as a petal fell off while i was painting it.
How are you doing? I see you still haven't posted a new piece but I l know you must have been painting. Hope all is well.

    1. Neat to see your son, Kurt - the Falconer - with Lulu and the fabulous photos of them together. WOW!.
Right up my alley and into my heart!
The last of the roses means the start of the mums and pansies. Right?

    1. Thanks you Carol. They were difficult to paint because I had not been painting and it takes a while to get back into the flow. It always amazes me how I need a warm-up period...even after all these years of painting.
My son was born with a great sense of humor. Funny how they can come that way isn't it?
I am always encouraged by you sharing your diet. it is truly amazing how much you have lost. Good for you!

    1. Hard to believe but nearly a 1,000 books to begin with. An accumulation of 40 years. I had a sale, donated some to a school and gave to friends and a bookstore. Huge job. I am thankful it is done.
It was great to see the all your dragon drawings. It is amazing how well you do them.

    1. Happy you like it, Blanche. I had to eliminate some of the leaves to make it work.
How are you doing - painting?

  10. Lovely roses!!! The petals are just so well done with all the colors in the shadows. Well done! I'm glad you had help moving the Library of Congress and that you were able to narrow down your collection. lol

  11. Good to hear you like all the colors in the shadows, Joan. The sky and leaves all bounce into the white and I enjoy trying to paint them.
I loved seeing your cloudy damp day. I am always amazed at your ability to capture the light...gray day is the hardest and you did it perfectly.

  13. First and foremost Julie - those roses are so beautiful. Then I started smiling when I read about your books. I have a whole shelf in my studio and when we re-carpeted it felt like I needed to do some downsizing too! Sounds to me like your son has a great sense of humor! God bless him. Take care - Hugs!

    1. Thanks for the neat comment, Debbie. You are an understanding friend for sure. My son could have gone into comedy if he wanted. It is so natural to him. Our son who died was also a comedian and actually wrote jokes he sold to tv personalities.
I really loved seeing your beautiful fall pictures. You live in a totally gorgeous area. Enjoy a blessed week.

  14. Hi Julie - Thanks for you kind message on my blog. I'm as far from home as I can get... in Australia for three months. We'll be home for Christmas and my daughter getting married on 28 dec (to an american from Denver). I hope to get back to normal shortly after. My Australian great grandsons are keeping me too busy to paint at the moment. Looks like you've moved home ... will try to catch up with all my buddies ASAP.
