Working Colander!

The Red Colander
6x8in oil on canvas panel $150.
Purchase SOLD

ARTIST NOTE
I have painted my colander so many times.
It is an old friend
Easy to paint?...nope!
But definitely invigorating fun.

It has taken longer than I  expected!
I thought I was off and running
back to painting BUT...noooo!
This one was a struggle
and only finally, am I pleased with it.
The colander is the star so the blueberries
could not dominate. That meant a sheen
but not the shine from wet ones.
Try that and see what I mean.

I guess I couldn't expect to resume
easily after such an intense
period of moving.
Emotional as well as exhausting.
My heart has to be in
its right place to paint well.

Another aggravating thing is that my
 Google account
has to be signed into
after every single visit to a blogger...
It happened after an update.
Bummer. I comment on a blog
and up it comes this unfriendly command
asking for account and password
but then wipes off what I wrote.
The weird thing is
I have to comment something
 before the command pops up.
Anyone have any hints?

  2. This is a beautiful painting. No surprise, but had to say it anyway. I've been away for awhile so will have to backtrack a bit to see about your move.

    1. Thank you, Roseanne. Missed you. You are off to a great start back with a series of toys. I love your first one.
I was delighted to read your wonderful post regarding Twyla Tharp and her book The Creative Habit.I agree.

  3. Wonderful painting, Julie. I certainly can't tell that it was a struggle, but have to admit I recognize what you are feeling -- when it comes to painting, absence doesn't make for fondness, or facility. It's a fabulous color for a colander, by the way. No wonder you include it so often.

As to your blog/comment glitch...will it work properly if you begin at your own blog, then link to the blogs of others? I have occasionally received such a sign-in request, but only if I've not come from my blog page, or my gmail account. (Because I'm already signed in to Google, I'm not asked to sign in again.) Hope you can work it out.

    1. Hi old chum, so good to hear from you. I can sense you went through it too. I have not seen the flow for a while.
      Happy you like this one.
The computer issue is strictly with the Apple side.
My work computer is a PC and has no problem My phone - Ipad and Mac with the last update went totally screwy. VERY frustrating as I do all my computer work at home.

  4. Love the red colander! On the other hand, I have no words of wisdom on your google problem. Sounds awful though! I'm thinking something got wonky in your settings during the update, but no idea what or how to fix.

    1. Thanks for liking it. The other problem is something only to do with Apple. I must have the part with the bite out of it!
I enjoyed your videos,Sharon, and am impressed with how well you explain the process.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help you with your google woes, but hoping you get it resolved very soon!

I hope it will be solved soon too.
Happy Cobie is well and truly on the mend. Love the painting. The rice paper technique is amazing in your hands.

  6. Hi Julie, as far as your Google goes it sounds like you need to tell it to remember your password somewhere in settings. Try logging in before doing anything else and making the adjustment (if you can find it). Good luck with it. It's a frustration you don't need. Sounds like time for you to relax a bit and refresh. Good thoughts for you.

    1. I thought that too but the password is not the problem. It was when Apple did their last security update. I was told that Google has a anew thing out which was not compatible.
Who knows...I have had three so called experts all tell me different things. Thanks for the help anyway. I am touched you think about it.

  7. I've tried to comment on this post several times ... but the system tells me it can't find it.

Gave it one more try today, and there you are with your gorgeous red colander.

No remedies to your computer problems, but much sympathy with getting 'back into the swing of things'. I set myself the task of a large P & I drawing to get me going again, hope to publish it tomorrow.

  9. I can see you love a good challenge Julie!!! This is absolutely beautiful and another winner. I love this unique red colander and understand why you use it in other paintings! I wish I can help with the Google problem but I had the same problem but it somehow fixed itself....

  10. That red colander is indeed the star, and I think that bit of light really calls your eye to the circular bottom and then it travels to the outer edge and highlights before enjoying those lovely berries. This is a treat for the eyes!

    1. Thanks for taking the time to really look at the painting, Joan. That is such a lovely complement.
Your alcohol ink pieces are all winners. I bet you enjoy doing them.

    2. You asked how I sealed the tiles. I use a pour-on resin called, Envirotex Lite. I tried spraying them with a sealer originally but it didn't make them waterproof or heat resistant. This is a pain to work with but makes them really shine and protects them well..

  11. Well Julie there is no question the red colander is the central focus. Your paintings are always just gorgeous. You captured so many lovely shades of reds in this piece too friend. As for the Google problem - I am no help - wish I was. Sometimes when you do a search there may be a fix for the problem. Take care and happy painting. Hugs!
