Afternoon Pleasure
6”x8” oil on Raymar panel $150.SOLD
Artist Note.
I named this Afternoon Pleasure
because my
memories of visiting
this lily pond
are still very pleasurable.
I have done quite a few paintings from this
lovely spot and I always enjoy the time
painting them...well that is not exactly true.
I start off fast and hopeful
then in the middle begins a struggle.
and it usually goes through several changes
before it comes together in a way I like.
This was no exception.
How are you all doing?
This is a time like no other
and even though my hubby and I are safe
we are very aware how dangerous it
could be for us if we go anywhere crowded.
So we will be sharing a short outdoor
picnic with our daughter and her hubby
for Thanksgiving.
This way there will be many more
to share.
Please stay safe and still enjoy a
Happy Thanksgiving.
Nice painting Julie, as usual very rich in color, textures and content, these themes remind me of Monet's impressionist paintings, I love them.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations.
Take care.
Greetings.
Nice compliment regarding Monet. Thank you Jose. The painting was difficult to photograph and looks different on the screen but has Monet's colors. I was admiring the colors in the shadows in your new post. Stay safe.
DeleteGorgeous lili pond , feels so alive with all the different greens and blues . Do take care !
ReplyDeleteHello Jaane - yes, taking care as I know you must be doing. Strange to think of the whole world suffering the same c-virus at the same time. makes the world seem smaller somehow and bring you closer. Love the beautiful floral on your post.
DeleteIt's a blessing that some living in warmer climates, are able to be outdoors for Thanksgiving. Going to be one of the most memorable for sure! It brightened my day to see your water lilies - an unexpected but delightful subject for right now!
ReplyDeleteYes, a blessing indeed although we will be wearing jackets! Sunny doesn't always mean warm at 4300 ft.
DeleteThanks for the visit Lauren. ALWAYS good to hear from you. I enjoyed catching up with your posts and seeing Miss Marley made my day!
Lovely painting:) Happy Thanksgiving Julie and stay safe!
ReplyDeleteBruce
Happy you like it Bruce. I really enjoyed seeing the process shots on your new post. Inspired me to get off my butt and get back outside.
DeleteA lovely painting. The colors are incredibly rich.
ReplyDeletethank you Debra. It did not photograph as well as I hoped so that is nice to know.
DeleteYour fox sure has personality!
Beautiful painting Julie. I love your waterlily pieces. Following advice and playing it safe is all we can do for now, but it's so important. Until a vaccine can be rolled out, we have to use defensive tactics. Have a lovely Thanksgiving, dear chum!
ReplyDeletethank you, dear Helene.
DeleteI found out this morning the a walmart and Albertsones have been closed by the state due to high employee covid rates until DEC. Can you imagine Thanksgiving food shopping with tow huge stores out of the game? I guess they will take testing their employees more seriously now but so many test come up negative when positive. sheesh. You are in a much safer place than us...we are right by El Paso.
Stay safe my good chum!
lovely lilies 😀 very pretty
ReplyDeletewe are doing all right, not really doing much though just to stay safe
Good to hear from you Jennifer. I loved seeing your beautiful drawing of the dog.
DeleteScotland has to be much safer than here. You have to be extra careful don’t you so pleased you are being careful with yourselves.
Your water lilies are absolutely beautiful, Julie!! And it’s so nice to see a post from you... miss your work. I’m doing a commission right now... I’m doing cartoon characters on a tobaggon!!! SO very different from my portraits... and yes... love the change and my grandkids love it as well!!! With the world upside down right now, I need this!!! Lol. Hope you and hubby are well! Think of you often..💕
ReplyDeleteGood to you...doing something different is just the ticket but still found great comfort in seeing The last Pin, on your blogpost. A wonderful portrait. We are both well but seriously hunkered down as covid is raging in our zipcode. We are too close to El Paso for comfort during this time. They are really suffering.
DeleteA vaccine on the horizon. Three cheers!
Wow! Wonderful painting so in balance with nature and itself from such a limited palette too. :) Howya doing old friend? I'm still bouncing around. No time for painting but two books to write, 13 pictures to draw and .......... an ocean-going kayak. Being locked-up for Covid allows me to work on uninterrupted, Stay safe, keep smiling and keep painting!! Lots of Love John
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely marvelous to hear from you John. Busy as always but with more indoor than outdoor stuff I see.
DeleteNever did find out if you got the engine for the boat.
I saw you got locked down again...as have we.
13 Pictures to draw...is that one a month or faster?
Hope the immediate and extended family are all well. It looks as though the vaccines have appeared at just the right time. To think that this new way of developing them would not have been possible only a few years ago. A true gift to mankind.
This time next year will be happily different.
I love these waterlilies, Julie. Honestly, I think you can paint anything!!!! I tried several times to comment so hopefully it works this time..lol. I hope you’re well in this crazy world we live in. I just got back from Costco and the line was about a block long ....SO depressing. No workshops... which I miss a lot and I still paint home but it’s not as good as being with our art friends.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, my friend! I’m having my daughters with their families... waiting patiently for the vaccine. I’ll be first in line....❤️
One of our Walmarts and an Albertsons have just been closed by the state until December for too many employees with covid. Shopping for Thanksgiving will be awful
ReplyDeleteI know your daughters are in your bubble Hilda. Envy you.
My daughter and son-in-law both work and do not live in our city so we were going to meet for a picnic at the park but have decided to pass seeing we have a severe spike in cases. I tell myself it is only for this one Thanksgiving! Boohoo.
This is so lovely!!! I love water lily ponds as a subject. We are staying home for Thanksgiving. My sister-in-law invited us for dinner, but her daughter and her boyfriend will be there so it doesn't seem like a safe idea. Also Jerry gets tired and it would be pushing it for him to last most of the day. We will Zoom with some of the family. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteSmart move on your part staying home - especially for jerry. Know your day was great anyway. My hubby went top bed saying it was one of the best Thanksgivings ever...and we didn’t go anywhere or do anything special... just shows it is all attitude!
DeleteDear Julie so glad to read that you and Jim are safe. Such a wise decision to have a picnic. Wish our weather would permit this but too cold. Many of us will not be getting together this year. Pray next year things will be different. Thank you for your prayers. Take care and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Hugs!
ReplyDeletePicnic was canceled as someone Eric works with got covid. Had nice phone visit with all the families though and it was a very warm and happy time.
DeleteWE were informed this week we will be getting the Pfizer vaccine in a couple of weeks so freedom lies ahead, Stay safe dear friend. Blessing.
