Bosque ll

Bosque ll
6x8 oil on canvas $100.

Yesterday's painting of the Socorro Bosque was painted plein air (on location) but todays' was painted from a photo I took, then displayed on my monitor. I enjoy painting from the monitor because it illuminates the shadow areas where as a photo usually prints the shadows too dark.
This view position was turned around from the other one and the sun was behind all the gathering clouds. It makes for a cool toned painting.

Bosque del Apache Refuge

Posted by Picasa
Sunset at the Bosque, NM.

8x6in oil on canvas 100

New Mexico unfortunately has some fires burning in several places and the sunsets have been outstanding because of the smoke.
The Bosque del Apache Refuge is a wondrous place where tens of thousands of birds gather for the winter. It is between Las Cruces, where I live, and Albuquerque/Santa Fe. Artists come from all over the country to paint the area. Unfortunately, because of the extreme fire hazard, most of the Bosque was closed but I was able to find a new spot just in time to capture a fast sunset.
