Falling Water

Falling Water
8x6in oil on canvas panel $135.SOLD

Artist Note.
My series on the waterlily pond
has taken me into painting the
water itself. First reflections
and now the falls.
All palette knife.

This one appeals to me because
when I was in Yellowstone
a couple of years ago
I painted waterfalls with
great pleasure.
I found I was excited just seeing
one. I would yell - stop the car -
and because the beloved driver
wanted to be assured of a
pleasant evening - he would
screech to a halt, sometimes even
doing a u-turn so I could
jump out and quickly do a watercolor.

I felt that excitement painting this one.

I am enjoying watching your boat start to take shape. Will it be a winter project?

    1. Hi Myra - you cannot swim? You must be from a landlocked state. Growing up on an island meant swimming was compulsory.
Your blog is so much fun to follow w and I really love your fashion sense.

  3. Exotic Julie! As a coincidence I finished a similar one yesterday after coming back from a trip to South Canara and found the water fall very inconspicuous, away from the main road. It couldn't escape my roving eye and we stopped the car to get a good view!

I worked today on another one.

  4. This is a prime example of the type of painting that gets me excited! Dark, rich color, lots of contrast, texture and thick paint and a strong point of interest.. Love, love!! Well done, Julie.

  6. I can feel the physical structure of that waterfall-the water falling over the lip of the edge in particular. And I can imagine the water hitting the bottom pool with little rivulets splashing back up. Very effective, my smart painting friend!

Waterfalls are special aren't they? It's no wonder you were so captivated by them.

    Beautiful color too as always!

It is neat that you are also involved with water at the moment. Just in a different way than me.
Your new piece, Epicenter, has all the rocking energy of an earthquake. Quite remarkable.

    1. You should see the actual falls. It was still during the spring melting snow so some of the many waterfalls were deafening.
I enjoyed your post about forgetting your art supplies, but being rescued by the clever way you always leave a sketchbook in the car. Good hint to pass along. You got to draw a wonderful scarecrow because of it.
