Rushing Water
7x10in Watercolor on Yupo
Artist Note.
Still involved with the
water series. 21 so far.
I am on a short
trip and did this on the
way to our destination.
I love to paint in the car.
I feel free to paint
and not worry
if a bump creates an
unexpected blob...or two!!
Just pure fun with paint
which makes the trip fly by.
Be happy with
your paint today!
so so Beautiful!!!!
ReplyDeleteI thought exactly the same of your beautiful "Malibu Beach " abstract.Beautiful!
Gros bisous ❀
translation:Hello dear Julia, you are amazing! You paint in the car! when driven? ... I can hear the lapping of the water ... I love the composition of this new painting and all the beautiful shades of water colors that flirt with those rocks. Very nice watercolor. Kisses ❀
DeleteI appreciate your comment across the mile. The Internet world has expanded all of our art sharing with the ability to translate - hasn't it?
Your new painting (with too long a title for this poor brain to remember) is a wonder of beautifully designed colors and shapes, creating a tropical paradise. I do remember the cute blue bellied bird!
Thank you for always visiting and your lovely comments.
I zoomed in to have a look at all of your marks. Just wonderful! Like looking at your fingerprints:) Different results from some of the others-it has a very "graphic" appeal which is just as nice.
ReplyDeleteyes , sharp eyes, Libby and pleased you noticed that- my discovery process with the yupo means different mark making. Still fracturing but different moves after it.
DeleteI think your new piece deserves to be made into a print. When you are asked to donate something for a good cause you will be proud to offer it.
it really is excellent.
I love the effect you achieve with yupo and painting rocks was perfect!! Nice work as always!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Hilda. Yupo offers its own delights and obstacles.
DeleteHave your tried it at all? Not a surface for layering and as a
pastelist - layering is your forte.
You must have been doing this from memory? I think painting in a car, a moving car, speaks to your passion for painting! It's resulted in a great painting!
ReplyDeleteYou, dear Kaethe, are spot on. Totally from memory. I made the water bluer on purpose because I just saw the beautiful blue colors the Gaspard - the Russian painter - used.
DeletePainting on Yupo in a moving car? Bet you'd get an even looser version if you had been driving while painting. Seriously, a beautiful effort!! Love your water series!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby really enjoyed this comment Chris. he has teased me about it before! He is good about warning me about impending bumps turns etc.
DeleteAfter some curses muttered quietly... edged with sarcasm!!
I love all your 'paint in the car' works and absolutely have to try it! You bring out the best in Yupo for sure... How you manage to bring together the car and this paper so beautifully is the stuff of magic!
ReplyDeleteHi Mary - with your incredible vision you would have a ball painting. You probably sketch already, anyway. Thanks for such a neat complement.
DeleteI was thrilled to see one of your fishermen paintings. Your way of painting
water is inspirational for me.
Can't believe you can paint in the car, but I love seeing how you do it. I do most of the driving so I don't think it would work very well for me. Happy painting.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby prefers to drive as it keeps him occupied. I prefer to paint so it is a win win situation. Love the shots of the birthday painting party. You helped turn out some very nice paintings.
DeleteSuch crisp, fresh color, Julie, plus all the little puddles and lines that flourish with Yupo.
ReplyDeleteThe puddles are part of Yupo's charm. It is not reliable thought. the same action does not achieve the same results so that keeps it interesting. oli is the same way.
DeleteThanks for the visit carol.
What a wonderful variety of strokes, shapes, marks. That had to be the fun part! And you came out with a great result. I like it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Helen.
DeleteYou ended up with a great result with your abstract. Did you see the butterfly?
How ingenious you are to be able to paint like this in a moving car. My husband would have a fit with the mess in his beloved vehicle, we have just travelled 6000kms and I kept occupied taking photos out the front window
ReplyDeleteI understand. It is my 11 year old van we travel in. His newer car has never seen a pencil never mind a brush. Obviously neither of us have artist husbands.
DeleteI have enjoyed your post about your workshop and the lovely florals and then your new post is great too - especially with a kangaroo that looks as if he is actually jumping. Amazing.
You two ought to think about one of those new self-drive cars, you can paint and Jim can sleep.
ReplyDeleteHilarious. Love this comment. thanks.
Deletevery nice :) I'd feel so ill if I drew in the car and would probably end up stabbed a few times with a pencil with all the potholes on the road:p
ReplyDeleteI gather you get car sick, Jennifer. I cannot read in the car or I feel sick too. I think it is a different eye movement when you are painting...something is different. maybe just focus? Who knows. I am just grateful I can pass the time
Deletein a way I like.
We do not have potholes on our highways out here. there can be 50-to a hundred miles between towns and smooth asphalt type surface.
I laughed at the visual if the pencil stabbing!
yep, I try to even read a map I feel ill :/ use to be able to read on my phone, small screen maybe, but cant do that now
DeleteBeautiful addition to this wonderful series! I love it!!
ReplyDeleteI am happy you like the series, Celia. I loved that we both were painting water at the same time. have you done any more?
DeleteEven traveling time turns creative for you, such an inspiration you are Julie, this is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Padmaja, yes, traveling time is more about enjoying a long journey. Survival type of thing. I am not good at sitting like a lump on a log!
DeleteLove your painting of the rocky coast of Oman. Beautiful colors. I was wondering what part of Oman it was?
HI Julie, your comment to Jennifer has made me realise something. If I sketch while my husband is driving, I'm fine but I can't read too much without feeling very sick. Maybe it's because to sketch the view, I have to keep looking at the road, which is what we do to stop feeling sick! I love your watercolour/yupo painting; it's a fitting combination as it enhances the watery, fluidy feel of the subject. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteSharon
Yes - Sharon, same as with me. I agree with your assessment of continual looking preventing the sickness. You do wonderful sketches. What an creative idea to paint the tiles for the fundraiser...and 12 sold. Good for YOU!
DeleteLOL I'm just shaking my head at your setup...but it works beautifully for you.
ReplyDeleteYou are an inspiration Julie. I'm amazed at what you can create from memory and while travelling in the car. A stunning outcome!
