Video Demo - Landscape!
Artist Note.
I came across this old video of me painting a landscape.
It was painted on Senso linen. 6x8'
It is at a MUCH faster speed than I paint!
Hope you enjoy it.

Gee Julie, if you could complete a work that quickly, and sell them all on completion, you could get rich in a week!
ReplyDeleteBIG GRIN... you are so right, David. Even if I could I would still have too many scrapers! Thanks for the neat comment!
DeleteThis is suprisingly helpful even at top speed! The video was a little over 2 minutes; how long did it actually take?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julie!
Hi Jan, believe it or not - it was not at top speed. That was way too fast. It took me about 30 mins for the original. I can work fast but I had it all planned out because it was a demo.
DeleteTalk about inspiration!!!!! I love this video...and the painting is amazing !!! I hope you do this again, Julie.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hilda. I will be doing more because it appears to be the way the arts are going. My new one I just finished may not make it though. It was larger. got it down, at this speed, to 10 mins. Too fast and I think you miss more.
DeleteYou know I love time-lapse. Even in that format you're teaching me. Love it!
ReplyDeleteYes, I know you do - you are quite an inspiration, Sharon.
DeleteHappy you like this.
So cool. I love the way you did the clouds and had to go back and watch it again. I must try that mid tone ground start. I just got back into using oils and painted a 36” x 48” ocean painting in about two hours. It must have looked something like this:) Oils are so much more fun than acrylics.
ReplyDeleteMid tone - Senso is a natural color linen as the they use a clear gesso.
DeleteI buy their pads and then if I like the painting I glue it on a board. Love the texture too. Thanks for the great comment, Sea.
I so enjoyed watching how you layer from thinner to thicker paint, finally using your knife for bold, juicy passages. Do you use a medium at any point, perhaps in early or middle stages?
ReplyDeleteHi Helene - no, no medium except I do use a bit of Gamsol on my brush in the underneath painting. Following the fat over lean principle. Gamsol is great. It has a bit of oil in it and that is why it is safer in the studio...it does not dissipate into the air quickly...and it does not break down the integrity of the paint binding in the initial washes, like other solvents do.
DeleteThanks for the question, friend.
That was fun Julie! Great to watch your progress ... I am certainly not that brave yet to be video-ed!
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed this demo!! To see someone actually painting live as you were really coalesces many skills I'm always working on. From start to finish is such a helpful visual!
ReplyDeletedef wish I could paint that fast :) nice to see you at work :)
ReplyDeleteLoved seeing this! It changed so much when you added those little areas of light in the mid ground fields. Brava! Do you have more videos on youtube?
ReplyDeleteLovely!!!I so enjoyed seeing your process. Thank you for this!!!
ReplyDeleteThe photo came alive , so beautiful !
