Seeing Red

Seeing Red

8x6in oil on canvas board  $125. SOLD

A cuppa tea out in the garden is one of the delights of summer.

Artist Note.

I have painted this red teapot many times and really enjoy it.
Red is my favorite color because it is so cheerful, but I find
it can be difficult to modulate.
I used orange to lighten and a yellow green to take the garish
look away. To darken, I moved into Quinacridone Magenta
with a little transparent oxide brown. Some green was added
to permanent red  as a transition color from shadow to light.

I do hope the blog is fully functioning again and the image
comes through.

Memories of Afternoon Tea

Memories Of Afternoon Tea

6x6in oil on canvas  Not for sale.

At the memorial service for my friend, Lorraine, her daughters had beautiful
flower arrangements placed in her collection of teacups.
It was a wonderful idea and the florist did a spectacular job.
I was one of the lucky guests given one to take home.
I say lucky because it brings back special memories of our
many afternoon teas together.

Sentimental me managed to keep my corsage from the event
and brought it home.
It seemed just right to place it as a companion to the cup.

Artist Note.

The two white items were competing for the focal point
so I made them different shades of white and picked a red
background to go with the roses on the cup - making the
cup stand out more...hopefully!

Study in Red

Red Teapot

6"x8" oil on canvas 100.

A friend gave me this teapot and I love its brilliant color.
This is the second piece using the color red as the feature and I had to really
examine the colors in the shadows and then work out how to achieve them.
It kept me interested, then frustrated...then interested.
