Pike Place Market - Flower Ladies

 Flower Ladies

8x6in oil on linen SOLD

The flowers at the market have
competition because of the beauty
of many of the young ladies
who work there.

Artist Note
I have also been painting with watercolor
this weekend, trying to work out
a good format to convey the
power and beauty of all the shapes
and colors. Not easy...
kept me totally absorbed though.
It did end up with me tearing a
sheet in half as the only way to
stop me from overworking it.
Poor hubby gasped, and I thought
he was reacting to my act but no...
it was a missed golf shot
during the British Open!

    1. They were all Asian - yes, pretty and delicate, but obviously strong, hauling huge buckets of flowers on and off shelves.
Hope you are enjoying your vacation. Thanks for the visit.

    1. Hi Carol - yes, hubby has been glued to the TV. He really enjoyed this years BO.
No - actually the flowers didn't seems to smell that much - maybe because the street was right outside and traffic and people. They sure looked gorgeous though. Hope you are enjoying some art time.

  4. There certainly is a Spanish Flavour to this gem. I think it is the light blue that's bringing it all to life.

At the end of this year I should have lots of time for painting (I've only done 54 so far). I've never tried watercolour, oil etc ...only acrylic on canvas ...having fun though

    1. Hi John - love your portrait.
I had a hard time with this lady. I wanted to capture that she was Asian but difficult on a small size. She was far more pretty than I could paint.
Pleased to know you will be getting back to your painting.

  5. Another beautiful one Julie. LOL the comment about your husband's gasp over the golf shot must have been funny because of the exact moment it happened in conjunction with your tearing the paper. Makes life interesting.

Those are beautiful photos of the bird. You have a good eye.

  6. Beautiful as poetry, a tribute to the beauty of flowers and youth ... the girl's face, almost pearlescent, is beautiful like a flower. Painting full of symbols, movement and color, even synesthetic, because it suggests the scent .... A great stunning masterpiece painted in so small space!

    1. True what you say about the colors of summer. They are beautiful.
We have the monsoon season during the summer and even the stormy skies are more beautiful than in winter.
Thanks for the lovely complement, dear Hilda.

Your WIP watercolor is looking very special. I can't believe how dimensional it looks. I wonder when you find the time. You bake, cook, paint, have a job, and do all types of other things. Amazing woman!
