Flower Ladies
8x6in oil on linen SOLD
The flowers at the market have
competition because of the beauty
of many of the young ladies
who work there.
Artist Note
I have also been painting with watercolor
this weekend, trying to work out
a good format to convey the
power and beauty of all the shapes
and colors. Not easy...
kept me totally absorbed though.
It did end up with me tearing a
sheet in half as the only way to
stop me from overworking it.
Poor hubby gasped, and I thought
he was reacting to my act but no...
it was a missed golf shot
during the British Open!
The ladies look as delicate and beautiful as the flowers, lovely work Julie!
ReplyDeleteThey were all Asian - yes, pretty and delicate, but obviously strong, hauling huge buckets of flowers on and off shelves.
DeleteHope you are enjoying your vacation. Thanks for the visit.
This latest piece opened up in my browser and the first thing I thought was how pretty those girls looked! A lovely painting:)
ReplyDeletePS-The last part about your husband made me laugh. Sounds very familiar...
Hi Libby - thanks. They sure were pretty and so were the flowers.
DeleteI am enjoying seeing your cut-out accordion books. You are learning all kinds of wonderful things about color and design.
So funny, Julie! We'll after all, it IS the British Open! All these beautiful flowers en masse must have been sheer Heaven. I can only imagine the air was delightfully pungent!
ReplyDeleteHi Carol - yes, hubby has been glued to the TV. He really enjoyed this years BO.
DeleteNo - actually the flowers didn't seems to smell that much - maybe because the street was right outside and traffic and people. They sure looked gorgeous though. Hope you are enjoying some art time.
There certainly is a Spanish Flavour to this gem. I think it is the light blue that's bringing it all to life.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of this year I should have lots of time for painting (I've only done 54 so far). I've never tried watercolour, oil etc ...only acrylic on canvas ...having fun though
Hi John - love your portrait.
DeleteI had a hard time with this lady. I wanted to capture that she was Asian but difficult on a small size. She was far more pretty than I could paint.
Pleased to know you will be getting back to your painting.
Another beautiful one Julie. LOL the comment about your husband's gasp over the golf shot must have been funny because of the exact moment it happened in conjunction with your tearing the paper. Makes life interesting.
ReplyDeleteHi Carol, yes - it was funny and we both enjoyed a laugh.
DeleteThose are beautiful photos of the bird. You have a good eye.
Beautiful as poetry, a tribute to the beauty of flowers and youth ... the girl's face, almost pearlescent, is beautiful like a flower. Painting full of symbols, movement and color, even synesthetic, because it suggests the scent .... A great stunning masterpiece painted in so small space!
ReplyDeleteWhat a pleasure to have you visit, dear Rita. Thank you for the wonderful comment. Thinking of you and know that many of us are sending healing love for your wonderful husband.
DeleteBeautiful. You captured the scene well. I have been in the market several times and there are so many flowers!
ReplyDeleteLucky you being familiar with the market. You are right - so many flowers.
DeleteI still can't get over the magnitude of the market. Amazing.
Thanks for the visit, Susan. I wish I could subscribe to your blog, I did try.
I like your work.

ReplyDeletethanks Sherry - so are you!
DeleteA gorgeous piece Julie! It's ALWAYS a pleasure to visit you!... I love the summer so we can appreciate all the beautiful colors around us ....
ReplyDeleteTrue what you say about the colors of summer. They are beautiful.
DeleteWe have the monsoon season during the summer and even the stormy skies are more beautiful than in winter.
Thanks for the lovely complement, dear Hilda.
Funny story, beautiful painting.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon - glad you visited so I can say how great it is that you are offering an online acrylic course. So many people do not have local instruction available.
DeleteSimply beautiful (the painting)
ReplyDeleteI smiled at that missed golf shot.
Hi Haddock - I enjoyed your vacation post VERY much.
DeleteThanks for the comment.
Market flower stalls are a painter's delight. Yours shows in this addition to a brilliant series.
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. How nice of you.
DeleteThat's a fabulous sketch of Kelly on your new post.
I love all the colors and the beautiful girls caught up with the flowers. How funny to think of your husband worried about the paper...it made me chuckle.
ReplyDeleteThe girls were as colorful as the flowers Celia. Glad you also go the humor. I am still grinning.
DeleteAre you working on a new watercolor? Can't wait to see it.
Haha! Funny story about you tearing your page and your hubby!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful and I can just imagine all the lovely creatures selling flowers. I love the action you caught here.
Thanks Lisa. It was funny - it was the timing.
DeleteYour new painting is beautiful as usual and it was interesting readin about the glazing and waxing.
Julie, I love your paintings and your stories. Simply beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNice of you to say, Joan. I was just admiring your lovely gouache paintings. I love gouache too....just not as much as oil.
DeleteSweet and gentle. Wonderful triangles keep appearing. They contribute to a good composition. So much fun. Love it all.
ReplyDeleteTalk about fun - your barn series is just that. The colors in your new one are wonderful.
DeleteThis series of paintings is so lovely...I can understand why so many of them have sold already. Markets like that are so inspiring. You could keep painting market scenes for a long time...and I hope you do. Your work is always so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your lovely comment. Thanks Joan. I will be working on them as long as they hold my interest.
DeleteHappy you enjoyed the wedding. I loved your airport sketch. Fun!
Oh the colors in this painting are amazing. That pink is so romantic. You had me smiling about Hubby's gasp. My boss has been watching the British Open as well. Just goes to show "different strokes for different folks"! No pun intended. Hugs
ReplyDeleteLOL - wonderful pun!
DeleteYour WIP watercolor is looking very special. I can't believe how dimensional it looks. I wonder when you find the time. You bake, cook, paint, have a job, and do all types of other things. Amazing woman!
