Partial to this painting Julie since my husband is an active member of the Koi and Water Garden Society. We have a koi pond in our yard and will send photo's if you like.
Actually, dear Blanche I would LOVE a couple of pics of your Koi. What a neat gut he must be if he is interested in keeping up a water garden. Hilda (hmuxo) who comments on my blog also has a pond at home with koi. I think they are mesmerizing to watch, but imposible to me to have a pnd here so I have to make do with my beta fish...Mr Fabulous, who is also gorgeous!.
it was a struggle so please don't think I just whipped it out. The sun going through the water and hitting the bottom had to be just the right value. Pleased you like it. Thank you, dear Sherry. Happy you are going to enjoy having an old friend with you for a week.
And I was just looking at the amazing colors in the shadows of your white flowers. I am inspired to push some more colors into my own after seeing yours. Thanks, Carol.
Another outstanding painting Julie! I love the splashes of blue reflected in the water from the sky! Absolutely perfect! I love adding Hyacinths to my pond but unfortunately the koi's think its a treat and eat the plant...lol. Keep these coming...love all of them!!!
I am tickled to know you have a koi pond of your own. have you painted them? I guess I could troll through your wonderful blog to find out. Hyacinths next to the pond would be breathtaking but I would never have thought that fish eat flowers. LOL indeed! Thanks for the great comment, Hilda.
I appreciate that - thanks Sharon. Enjoyed seeing the drawing demo on your gallery blog. He is a good teacher. You do a great job provinding instruction for the local artists
It came also time for these Koi ... See them move under the flowers, sometimes even jumping out of the water ... With flowers, fishes are other side of beauty life in the pond, for painters and gardeners. A masterful composition that enchants my eyes.
LOL at the thought of koi hunting the lily. I will never see it the same way again! Your "mood board" project is quite fascinating and will look forward to seeing it finished.
Thanks - I am torn between the koi and lily pond - which one to feature? I am still working on them and start another watercolor one tomorrow. Talking of water...I like the house boat you sketched. I think I would enjoy living on a houseboat ...for a while.
Both are beautiful so the decision is a hard one. Glad you liked the houseboat. We only have a few around her that I've seen, which is strange with all the water we have nearby.
Lovely how you conveyed the kois just barely under water, looks like they are debating whether to go 'there ' or not :-) Love the blue dots and the vividness of the whole scene.
Thanks for the neat comment, Jane. " Debating" is a popular word here in the US at the moment so I got a chuckle out of your viewpoint. Looking forward to seeing if you do another abstract. Love the one you just did.
I love that you are taking the time to comment and thank you for it. I am sure other readers will enjoy them too. If you cannot comment through this format then email me at juliefordoliver@gmail.com Cheers, Julie

DeleteThis is fabulous Julie, I have a weakness to watch koi and forget the world, they are so addictive, painting them is as much joy.
ReplyDeleteThey are and I agree completely. Happy you like it.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to you next post. Padmaja. I love the desert one.
How absolutely beautiful, Julie! The depth you've been able to paint...amazing to me.

You hit the ball out of the park with this one, Julie. Love the composition and the color.

DeleteI never thought about dividing up the composition so that every quarter is different. I am always learning from you! This is a beautiful painting!
ReplyDeleteNice of you Kaethe - and I am always inspired by your work - especially your values. I think you were born with a special "eye" for that.

I'm glad you did a painting of the koi too! I love the touches of the gold and orange that make your eye dance around the painting. Lovely job!

Amazing depth to this, Julie, and I like the curve of the koi's bodies drawing the eye onward!
ReplyDeletePleased you noticed the curve. The focus at the guild has been on "line" this month and the "line of beauty" is demonstrated in the curve of the koi.
Deletethey are beautiful!
