Reflections On The Lily Pond
8x6in oil on canvas panel $135 SOLD
Artist Note.
Number 8
in the lily pond series.
The glow of the setting sun
reflects on the water.
Sky and water together-
Beautiful!
I always have an
emotional response
to this combination
no matter what time of day.
Using the palette knife
I went for simple shapes of color
to suggest sky, hills, water and then
adding the lily pads at the end.
Its amazing what the eye can
make out of
simple shapes and color.
Breathtaking, Julie! I can almost hear the frogs. So ethereal. I've already made up my own story scenario about this scene. A superb example of the eye putting together a complete whole from smaller, colorful parts.
ReplyDeleteThat's the nicest compliment I could get. Thank You, my dear Carol.
DeleteThe color of your beautiful flowers inspired me - honest!
This is a REAL Beauty!
ReplyDeleteI like the plum color in this...It is PERFECT!
Thanks so much, Sue. I liked the plum color too and it happened accidentally.
DeleteHas that ever happened to you?
Gros bisous ♡
Hello dear Julie, I understand why small reinettes take refuge and lounging on the leaves of water lilies ... They come to admire the magnificent spectacle offered by their hours of the day when the sun playing with water and colors. .. As a small russet, on the other side of my screen I dazzled the colors of your work. I let myself be lulled by the serenity of the atmosphere. Congratulations and thank you for sharing. Kisses ♡

Such a wow piece, Julie. I absolutely love it; the colors, the composition. Just truly breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteHi Sherry - glad you are feeling so happy. Thanks for the neat comment.
DeleteThis is my favorite of your waterlily series, Julie. I also, respond to the sunset and water reflections. I love the depth of this work!
ReplyDeleteHi Carol - Please to know you like it. I have the same reaction to your painting of the storm. Wonderful!
DeleteI think you were very successful in the use of simple shapes with such a complicated subject! Your colors and use of light really convey that quiet moment!
ReplyDeleteQuiet moment - I like that. You are doing simple shapes in the few values with your challenge series. Great idea and reinforces your already awesome skill with values. I do appreciate your comments during the hectic schedule of doing the challenge. Truly do!
DeleteSo beautiful! Sunsets can be so tricky but this was was perfection.
ReplyDeleteNice of you - thanks Susan. Perfection is something you are really good at, Susan. I love all your work.
DeleteLove how you pushed the color in this one!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim - yes - I pushed it and made a color I have never mixed before. Interesting. it all started with a new blue.
DeleteStill admiring your waterlily!
So love this painting. Love the colors, the sunset, the subject and they way they all play off each other. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon - you always make me feel good and it is appreciated - especially on days when not everything goes well!!!!
DeleteLove this pond series. What never fails to amaze me is that I see the paining with great clarity from a distance and then see the cleverness of the palette knife work when up close. I could never work this way: I don't have enough imagination and I only see realism ...But that doesn't stop me being amazed and enthralled by your brilliant techniques.
ReplyDeleteBack burner indeed :) Boat building is art!!
Impressionism does that - viewed close up it is all marks of colors but from a distance...it all falls into place. Part of what fascinates me.
DeleteI get enthralled by your line work. I cannot do that.
I can see that boat building is an art. Love the story on your post.
such gorgeous warm colours :D like the sky and water are on fire :)
ReplyDeleteI thought of the colors of fire too! Nice of you visit - especially on Wordless Wednesday.
DeleteHope you are feeling well.
stunning! i'd like to see this place!
ReplyDeleteSo would I - it was the colors from my deck on the pool.
DeleteI floated a green tray to get the colors of the lily pads.
Love your new runway painting! Food is looking pretty good too.
Wow! this is really stunning. Just the right color notes in the right places. love how abstract this is.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your comment because your use of colors is wonderful. Thank you.
DeleteClassic beauty Julie, sunsets are my weaknesses and so also your paintings :-)
ReplyDeleteI have noticed - we both love color. I also love your country as well as your paintings.
DeleteIt just keeps getting better and better, my absolute favorite of the waterlilli series ! LOVE the dramatic colors in the sky and the reflection on the pond .
ReplyDeleteAnd I know you have hit on a new way of painting for you that appears natural because they have been awesome - right from the first one. I hope you keep going. the sunflower is FABULOUS!
DeleteSo excited about your painting i forgot - thanks for the great comment, jane!
I love how you combined the sunset and the water lilies!!! My eye just travels from one area of light to the next through the whole painting. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Joan - thanks. I was just amazed seeing your four watercolor sketches from ONE DAY! Complex drawings too. My hats off to you!
ReplyDeleteCatching up. This painting is warm and full and deep. One can kind of get lost in it. Lovely.
