Artist Note.
I loved working on this one.
I saw the painting in a dream first
so I had a direction to go in.
I worked on getting a puffy,
cloud-like, background first.
Layering with the inks is
not easy and I found that
patience solved a lot of issues
that came up.
The whole process
kept me fascinated
and I really like the results -
it has a little more of a
contemporary viewpoint.
Love the story and the title. Beautiful painting! Inks are so challenging! You have mastered them.
ReplyDeleteI loved seeing your beautiful portrait with the alcohol ink. Great colors. Thanks for the visit Chris.
DeleteI see it as a contemporary piece, too, Julie, with a unique and interesting layout/design. It also lends itself to multiple interpretations. Might I say the frame suits the art to a "T."
ReplyDeleteHi Carol- how's the recovery coming along ?
DeleteI always enjoy your perceptive comments.
You really look for the good stuff in my work and I do appreciate it.
Have a great week.
How awesome that your inspiration came in a dream. It gave you that wonderful title.
ReplyDeleteIt was awesome. Stayed so clearly too. Wish I had more like that. Good to hear from you, my friend. Have a great week.
DeleteLove the combinations of blues.
ReplyDeleteyes, you and I both use blue don't we. How is Bonnie? I think of her when I look at her feathers. They are beautiful.
DeleteBeautifully painted Julie! I have always loved your nest paintings. Perfect blues!!
ReplyDeleteWondering if you are snowed in today, Hilda? get you painting if you are and that's a good thing for us.
DeleteI love the dream quality of this piece.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jean...dream quality versus the immediate quality of your fabulous, hand on hip, woman!
DeleteWhat a stunning and evocative image. It does indeed have a contemporary sensibility -- almost surreal in fact, except that your nest and eggs are rendered in a fashion that is grounded in reality. It’s beautiful, Julie.
ReplyDeleteLovely comment Helene - bless you. Stunning and Evocative!made my day.
DeleteHi Julie: love this! I pinned it on Pinterest with your information -hope you will get lots of visits!!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet of you to do that - thank you.
DeleteI really enjoyed your post about the plein air painting trip to British Columbia. A magical place for sure. Your painting and the colors you found in the rainy landscape are beautiful.
love the blue :D
ReplyDeletethe frame is a good choice, goes great with the blues and really brings out the colours in the next :)
Thanks, Jennifer. The finish on the frame is really wonderful with something as natural as a nest.
DeleteYour Yupo painting is FABULOUS!
thanks :) I'm having a lot of fun making a mess on Yupo :p
DeleteLove the mood and colors of this beautiful piece! It is contemporary but has a deep spiritual feeling.
ReplyDeleteThe egg is the start of life isn't it? Thanks for the lovely and meaningful comment.
DeleteI was admiring the way you teach children and was thinking what a huge impact you have on their early art experiences. The looked so happy and proud of their masterpieces.
So inviting. Beautiful blues. It works really, really well.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much, Helen.
DeleteI am enjoying seeing you add new figures on the same canvas- and - all different.
This is interesting. I really feel like this is the thing the millennials are looking for in a giant size. Fun to consider,eh?
ReplyDeleteI find your comment interesting regarding the image in a giant size.
DeleteNow my mind will be turning and turning....thanks for a good idea, Bruce.
Good luck with your demo for the and I bought a ticket for the Austin

Such a worthy cause and I applaud you for your generosity.
great what you are doing with the inks. are you doing the NM challenge ones in ink?
ReplyDeleteThe inks are fascinating for sure, Lavon, but I use them to explore in my own world. I have done one in the challenge but for my eyes only.
Deletethanks for the visit.
Oh my goodness, Julie. There's so much in this one ... a masterpiece of design ... if we don't use the word harmonics about paintings then we do now. Even the frame is part of the harmony. The egg-shapes of the background harmonise into mother-of-pearl.
ReplyDeleteTell me you didn't plan any of this this, tell me there was a magical intervention that carried you along.... woo hoo!
Gonna frame this comment, John. Thank you and bless you.
DeleteI am enjoying seeing the portrait of Max... pretty amazing so far.
Mouths are always difficult for me and I see how well you handled this one. Do you have itchy feet? another trip but this one closer to home.
Dear Julie - perhaps it does have a contemporary feel but the subject matter is timeless. The background of blues just adds to the darker color of the nest. I naturally clicked on it to enlarge and noticed that warmer tone of yellow/orange that is embedded in the nest is just the perfect touch of color to make this painting glow. What can I say - just love it. Have a beautiful week-end. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThe bird had used a lining of fine orange grasses. I am always amazed at the care which goes into these avian homes. happy you like it, Debbie. Thank you. The watercolors on your blog have a lovely color harmony and sensitivity to them. Always a pleasure to visit. Have a blessed week.
DeleteThis is such a beautiful piece Julie, I've really enjoyed catching up on all of your work I missed. You are really making those alcohol inks work wonders and I know how hard they are to use!
ReplyDeleteI am loving all your birds, Leesa. Always great when another artist inspires me in a subject close to my heart.
DeleteNow that I've tried alcohol inks I'm even more fascinated by the ones you do. This is lovely! That background is so textural and compliments the nest so nicely. What is a cradled board?
ReplyDeleteHi Joan. A cradled board is when a strip of wood is run around the edges on the back of the panel. It prevent warping.
DeleteI tried to use the inks in a different way on this and it was an aquabord surface. Not used it before for inks. Worked differently.
You got a lot of snow I see and i got a kick out of seeing the sketches of boots for the snow... followed by cactus and turtles! Never a dull moment when I visit your blog.
It is one out of the world dream that came true, very unique piece! I am just staring at the nest and in awe about the master quality that you have displaced here.
ReplyDeleteI love painting nests. This is one of the most beautiful I have seen.
ReplyDeleteNice we both share a passion of avian architecture. They are very symbolic of home and all it entails. I enjoyed seeing your paintings. You are a wonderful artists and your nests are very beautiful.
