The Four Callas
The Four Callas.
8x6in oil on canvas panel $125. SOLD
The elegant Calla is another flower
I really like to paint.
Artist Note.
Today I mailed off the prints for the
runner ups from my give-a-way.
It felt really good. I had three
6x6in giclee prints made on canvas by the
finest company I know for producing exact
color reproductions. Fabulous eye - honest.
I rent my downtown studio and gallery from
the owner and so I am very familiar with
the high quality. All archival. I have never had
a giclee made before as I like to
protect the owner of the
original, but seeing this was an artist thing
I went ahead and am pleased I did. Afterwards
I painted a little texture on them - let them dry,
and then sprayed with the important light
protector.
If you are looking for a company to do a giclee
or other type reproductions
then you may be interested in inquiring by

Palette Knife Callas #2
Palette Knife Callas #2
6x8in oil on canvas 100.
Painting the Callas with a palette knife is more difficult for me but I enjoy not only the challenge but also the results. I tried for a slightly more muted color palette than my previous attempt as the colors of the mailbox paintings were so bright my eyes needed a change.
I am still painting with a limited palette.
For reference I used a drawing of callas I had done for a previous painting that I am proud to say was selected to be in the fabulous, Nita Leland's, The New Creative Artist. A book I highly recommend for developing your creative spirit. Published By North Light it can be found on Amazon. Nita has the ability to present ideas and techniques in an easy to understand manner. All her books are wonderful.

Palette Knife Callas
Palette Knife Callas
6x6 oil on canvas 80.
It is fun painting a series and trying different techniques. Here the palette knife produces a whole different feel/appearance. With a white flower like the calla the color of the sky, as well as the surroundings areas, influence the the purity of the white. I didn't even have to look carefully because the blue jumped out at me...both from the sky peeking between the leaves and its absorption onto the white of the calla.
We are working with a limited palette at the guild this month so this was painted with Primary Yellow, Permanent Alizarin, Ultramarine Blue and Titanium White

Almost Twins
Almost Twins
8x6in oil on canvas 100.
After doing a series of Calla Lilies from life I went back to my photos from Portland
and found these two proud specimens. Very similar in size and shape.
The neat thing I like about these plants versus the store bought Callas, are the leaves.
I love to paint all the leaves with their curvy lines as they make the perfect compliment to the simple, pure elegance of the Calla.

Pastel Calla Study
Calla Study
8x8in pastel on paper
I was visiting a friend who works in pastel and she pursuaded me to try her pastels.
I find them messy to use but enjoyed the companionable time together.
I liked hers a lot better than mine!
