California Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas

8x6in oil on linen panel $125.

DAY 19
This plant ( see below) was in a yard not far from
our son's house when we were visiting California
earlier this summer.
I was blown away by the beautiful range of colors.

Artist Note.

I elected to paint a close up first and would like to try
the whole bush sometime. I admire the range of variations
in the colors.

This is another one painted on the Senso linen canvas.
I buy mine in pads of 10 sheets. I find I can toss out a
sheet, if I am not satisfied, much easier than if I had
paid for a stretched canvas.
If I like one, like the one above, I then
glue it onto a panel.

I have had several emails asking about the product.
This is the cover and below that the color of the linen

I love the texture because it has some tooth, but if
you like smooth then this is not for you. Most of the
catalog places have it. I get mine from ASW Express.

Allium - Dried Seed Head

Allium - Dried Seed Head

7x5in oil on linen  $100.

Day 24 in the 30 in 30 Days Challenge
My personal goal for this challenge - to paint only
what I have never painted or thought of painting before.

This is a wonderful dried seed head from the flower of
the garlic plant. I have painted them when they are
in beautiful bloom, but never like this.
I have to admit I cannot wait to paint a flower.
Something glorious.... hmm, now what will it be?

Puppet Pete

Puppet Pete

8x6in  oil on linen  Not for Sale

Day 13 in the 30 in 30 Days Challenge
My personal goal  for this challenge - to paint only what I have
never painted or thought of painting before.

Artist Note.

A quick study of my marionette, Puppet Pete.
I found this little guy at a garage sale and the owner told me
his name and actually kissed him goodbye. I was startled
to hear PP say goodbye too! I fell for it... and much laughter
and good humor filled the room..
They must have had a lot of fun with their kids back in the day!

He is made out of wood which is nice. How his joints
are made is quite fascinating to me.
I always wanted to find a way to place him into  a still life.
This is the first time I have painted Pete and I know I need
to do it a few times to get familiar with him.

Band Ball and Tissues

Band Ball and Tissues

7x5in oil on linen  $100.

Day 11 in the 30 in 30 Days Challenge
My personal goal  for this challenge - to paint only what I have
never painted or thought of painting before.

I have never seen a rubber-band ball before.
My friend has made this from the bands that come around her
daily newspaper
Good idea, and I am going to start making one myself.

I have just arrived back home after a fabulous week long
figure workshop in Albuquerque.
I am looking forward to catching up with everyone's blogs.
But first...some time with my Mr Special and the dog.

Tea Pot, Pine Cones and Workshop Images

Tea Pot and Pine Cones

6x8in oil on linen $125. SOLD

I love this tea pot!

Artist Note.

I only teach small classes of 6 because I find I can
be of more help to the individual artist and
still keep my energy up.
The six in this group were all talented artists with
open minds. A wonderful group energy existed
almost from the very start.

Here are some of the paintings they finished
during the workshop. All went home exhausted
because they had finished several paintings in three
days, and the first day was all exercises...getting
used to the handy tool, brush and knife work!
None of them painted like this before the workshop,
but I have a feeling that some of the things they
learned will pop up in future paintings.
At least I hope so.

They all loved the handy tool I make...once they
got the hang of it. I admit to quite a few groans at first
but the enthusiasm grew quite loud as the days went on.

I did not get to photograph them all, but here are
a few of the pieces. Only the exercises were
the same for everyone. Afterwards, they were
encouraged to choose subject matter which
held an attraction.

The next workshop starts on Wednesday.
Now I know how to teach it, I am excited.
It was a real high seeing the enthusiasm in
the group and hope the next one goes as well..
