Fracturing Re-do

Iris

8x6in oil on canvas board  $125.

I am not sure if my Blogger is working as my usual way to download does not work.

This is another re-do of an older painting. I always loved the colors in it so I had it in my studio to use for inspiration. It was lacking some structure which I provided with the dark background shapes.

I had classes all day and we did a neat exercise. I will share more when I can see that
everything on the blog is back to normal.
I hope Blogger has not changed something without my realizing it.

    1. Hello Rita - the problem was my blogger from Picasa did not work, I am going to have to figure out how to do it another way and would appreciate any suggestions. I still do not know how I did this!

  2. I am sure you painted this because you know that Iris is my favorite flower. It is nice to see your approach, so different from mine. Very nice, well done.

I think you were just having a glitch on your computer or your server as I am unaware of any changes from Blogger.

Thanks for your idea about taking off comment verification.....I implemented that as soon as I read it.

    1. Thanks, Carol.
I tried your link to the Flash sales but it did not lead anywhere. (just in case you did not know)
Fingers crossed those terrific wood pieces sell well for you. I love the way they did the corners.

  4. Julie,
This is a lovely piece. I'm pleasantly surprised that you so candidly talk about re-doing older works and share the process with us. It's neat to see what the painting looked like before and how you've "re-done" it. Thank you!

    1. Thanks Maria. This blog is also for the artists in the The Artists Guild, I belong to. The concept is from the old Guilds of the past where everyone shares and grows in skill together.
I find the blogging world to fit into this perfectly. I have gained much information from the incredible sharing of others.

  7. Another great painting! The purple kept my eyes for a long time, felt like it's keeping a secret of a short... like a lock, but won't give away its mysteries; like all wondrous things around us.
    Warm regards.

  8. The colors are marvelous, subtle, elegant. And I really like what you did in the background. It looks like many stalks of irises and has depth. Beautiful. So you think we should hold on to our not-quite-there pieces; I do too.

  9. Julie,
I am a big fan. I live on an Island in the NW and my shopping expedition yesterday took me to every hardware supply store I could think of looking for the means to make your tool. I saw it in one of the older posts and think it was made from a window scraper with a screw to hold the razor and you replaced it with a rubber window squeegee. I can't find a scraper with a screw. I know there are items "out there" called shapers, but they are difficult to find also, at least in the size you seem to be using. Help! Pat

    1. Thanks for being a fan, Pat.
The smaller hardware stores carry these. They have to have the screw in them to work but you can buy them and I just saw a new line of great ones of all shapes and sizes. These two look great.

  10. I might be answering my own question. I googled shapers and came up with several at Jerry's artarama that are out of stock. Have all you wonderful fracture painters out there purchased them? I think I need the straight, firm to practice with. What do you say Julie?
