Mugging for the Camera

Mugging for the Camera

6x8in oil on canvas panel  $125.

Some mugs from my collection. I really do like the polka dot one
but never drink out of it.
I bought it purely to paint.

Those who follow this blog know that my daughter moved away with her job
and I had been missing her.
Last Sunday, our local paper did a very nice story on my
move into the new gallery/studio space and also about my daily paintings.
I forwarded Rainy, my daughter, the newspaper link and she sent me
these beautiful flowers with a note saying how proud she was of me!
Tears and tissue time!!!

Artist Note.

Yellow roses are my favorite rose and Callas are my one of my favorite
flowers to paint, but I worked on these flowers for hours today and
for the life of me could not get something I liked.
I do want to paint them so I will try again tomorrow.
I think the problem was  the long shape of the callas mixed
with rather a large rose.
Have to work on getting the design much stronger than what I was doing.

The flowers are going to be a challenge. I want the yellow and white together but the shapes my not work.
Daughter is a great on...but her dad had a lot to do with how great she turned out.

Looking forward to seeing your next painting and I think - just like you said on your blog - I will do a small study first.

  4. My granddaughters moved in, filling the gaps left by my children leaving the nest. Now the last, and youngest, granddaughter is leaving - I home educated her (health reasons) and we are just completing an English degree together. She's the last to go (gulp). So, much sympathy to you.

Love the mugs ... all the best with the flowers!

  5. Awww... She has every right to be proud! And you, to be needing tissues :) The most treasurable recognition is the one we get from our loved ones!
I would need to ease the emotions first before trying to paint the flowers, but you are a great master of your brushes!
The painting is, as always, gorgeous!!
    Warm regards.

    1. Thanks so much for the positive thinking regarding the flowers..
I hope you are able to think of starting to paint again and the loss, although I know is still as deep, could be the start of a loving portrait???

  9. How sweet of your daughter. I would say she is probably missing her mother very much. And why wouldn't she be proud to have a mom that's a local artist celebrity in your community. :)

I am in love with your polka dot mug painting. And I think I would drink from that polka dot coffee cup every day.

    1. Thanks Lisa - but did you notice the handle on the polka dot mug? Hard to hold it comfortably - but great to paint!
You are right -she is, but finds her new job exciting and fulfilling.

  14. Dear Julie, I like how the elements of composition convey, creating a drama to the background! Other stories for your characters!
Instead calla lilies and roses are difficult for the stems ... but you're too experienced not to find a way to do ... acting actors!

Congratulations on the well deserved success of all your activities!
