Apple Artist Hint
Apples and Grapes - sketch
6x8in oil on linen $100. SOL|D
I love apples and at this time of year I make sure I have at least one every day.
Artist Note.
I found and apple with a wonderful leaf still attached. BUT it was all red and I
wanted some variation as this was a demo for class.
Solution below.
Applying green oil paint
Finished painting it
and the apple looks just like
I want it to.
Stripe shows how easy to remove.
Cannot eat it though!

As my husband puts it to express pleasure..."Yup".
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work. Every. Single. One.
LOve what I saw of your new piece - can't wait to see the rest.
DeleteThanks for the visit.
What a great idea to paint the apple to make it look the way you want it to look. Lovely painting. I especially like the turquoise background.
ReplyDeleteNice of you to comment, Nancy. thank you.
DeleteYour yellow clivias are beautiful.
I like your ingenuity to adjust the colour on that apple and make it YOURS!The leaf is perfect, as is the background colour.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Ann. Neat comment showing me you really looked!
DeleteI like your snake of a hose...great sunlight!
Brilliant solution! Brilliant sketch.
ReplyDeleteNice of you L.W. - thanks. Hope you get the design job and hope you find a way to paint a little here and there, while it is going on.
Deletewow! fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI like the wow and fantastic - thanks, Myra.
DeleteI feel that about youe incredible creativity. How you do it amazes me.
well, aren't you the clever one---this is gorgeous
ReplyDeleteI have a grin on my face after reading your comment. Thanks Celeste.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing your blocks. I still pull mine out and do a quick knife piece just for the fun of it.
What a smart and fancy idea ,Julie, to give variation to the apple! The alluring beauty of your work is holding me spellbound :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are kind - thank you, Padmaja. I think of your Aunt, your tribute and your beautiful colors.
DeleteThat is another striking fruit painting. I like the fact that you painted the apple to look like you wanted it to be, I just try to change it in my mind. Perhaps that's why I fail sometimes, can't decide what it should look like.
ReplyDeleteThat isn't real grapes is it?
Have you thought about doing your own challenges? I was really inspired by your painting and photo set up?
Hi Roger. I always enjoy your comments. I can tell you really do look and read my posts.
DeleteYes - those are fake grapes. The are perfect for a dark shape and because they have great negative areas, they add interest.
Me do a Challenge???? Please feel free to use this image or any part of it. If I had to think one up it would take forever!
OK! So if I cover an apple in ink ...? No maybe not :0)
ReplyDeleteYou see I might not paint, but I love the thinking and ingenuity you put into it. You really are tempting me to have a go, you really are Julie ...
...but...
I have so many projects on the go, from a four poster bed to an illustrated biography via my usual drawing and the final submission (in 6 days) for a degree in English (sobs onto the inked apple)
Now there is a visual. Black apple!!! -
DeleteInk is your paint, John. I did laugh when I read your opening and last lines.
What is this about a degree in English? Ye Gods, my man...are you mad? All at a time of life when fun is supposed to be the order of each day. No wonder you are sobbing onto the apple. Probably waterproof ink!
Goodness but I think your fruit still lifes are my favorites of them all!
ReplyDeleteThanks c
DeleteCrimson. I have no favorites except for using the paint itself.
Pure genius! Thanks for makeing me smile and giggle:)) What a creative solution!
ReplyDeleteHi Bruce - thanks for the visit and comment. Looking forward to seeing your next painting.
DeleteOkay Julie, either you have 26 hours in your day or you never sleep. You manage to crank out beautiful paintings, write informative teaching thoughts, teach students and then......respond to everyone's comments!!
ReplyDeleteYou are a super human. Would love to take some classes from you
what a lovely comment, Carol, but then I look at your work in awe and admiration. You do it all. Still life, animals, landscapes but best of all figurative work. Your new piece of the girls in their jammies is great.
DeleteYou are so clever! I also like the background color....a trademark color for you, and I love the deep purple grapes that contrast so well with the rest of the set-up. Wonderful effect.
ReplyDeleteClever eh - I will pass that one on to my hubby!
DeleteGlad you like the painting, carol. Thanks. I also like your wine bottles today.
What a WONDERFUL idea...leave it to you!! LOL. The blue background is perfect on this beautiful still life, Julie!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Hilda - I keep watching out for a new one on your blog. If it is taking this long it must be a stunner!
DeleteLike the way you set up your subject and literally painting the apple was a great idea. Love your painting.
ReplyDeletethank you, Ann. I enjoyed your photos of the trip to Shakespeare land!
DeleteLove your colors!! Love the way the linen of the canvas shows through...love the looseness, enjoyed viewing the process!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Elizabeth. I find your color sense appeals to me a lot...but your abstract designs are wonderful.
DeleteWhat a wonderful idea to paint your fruit! Love the post today and the painting as usual is exquisite!
ReplyDeleteJulie came upon your blog - your oils are truly breathtaking - I paint with watercolors and play around with different mediums...never oils but love your impressionistic style. I am especially intrigued with your kitties. Thanks for sharing. God Bless
ReplyDeleteHOW NICE OF YOU TO VISIT AND COMMENT. THANK YOU. BLESSINGS TO YOU TOO.

ReplyDeleteJULIE-ART can not be stopped by anything!!
Another beautiful painting that says very clearly:"Julie"!! I really like those delicious looking scoops of color throughout your work!
ReplyDeletePainting real apples???!! It reminds me in some strange way of Jack Frost! Very innovative! :)
