Watercolor Weekend - Adobe and Garden

Adobe and Garden
7x9in watercolor on Yupo paper

Artist Note
Still playing around with watercolor on the Yupo paper.
It was painted plein air and dried very quickly.
Using the fracturing technique added some excitement
for me, as unexpected areas of paint reacted in different ways.
I "puddled" the paint in places and liked the fine line
it left at the edges.
Maybe this summer I can
spend a bit more time experimenting with painting
on the Yupo. I like the idea of mounting it to a board
so it can be framed without using glass.

  1. The paper sure creates a lot of interesting textures doesn't it? I like those hard edges and puddles and pools of colors too. Good stuff:)

  2. Julie, this is beautiful! Look at those beautiful colors! I am thinking of trying to somehow fracture on my current in progress oils. Haven't seen the video but I am going to experiment. I think. LOL

  3. Using the fracturing technique on this piece gave it such a nice texture. I love the colors in this painting. I imagine working with yupo paper isn't easy but the fact that you can frame without glass is wonderful!

    1. I wonder if you would enjoy trying pastel over a watercolor base on the Yupo?
Be neat to see what your magic touch would produce.

    1. Thanks Helen. The Yupo does have some arty type accidents and I am enjoying trying them out.
Love the way you are painting the color red.

  6. Very much reminiscent of stained glass, Julie, with vivid colors and intriguing shapes. Wonderful light on that adobe wall!

    1. Thank you Carol. The paper has no sizing on it and that keeps the colors very clear.
I had some people from Green Valley come into the gallery last week and I asked if they knew you. They laughed and said how large the population was during the winter. They were not painters but loved art. they were heading back up north.
