Desert Sunrise

Desert Sunrise

6x8in oil on canvas panel  $125.

Sunrise is a personal, favorite time.

This is for the Daily Paintworks Sky Challenge
|Jill Bates came up with the challenge. Click on her name
to see her beautiful work.

Artist Note.
This was done very quickly and there are areas which
could be tidied-up, but I know if I start fiddling around
with it I will lose part of what I like.
I am sure I am not the only one who has messed up
what could have been a fresh, nice sketch by trying to
make it perrrfect!

    1. And your rose colored glass is beautiful. I like the idea of placing tomatoes in red class. Clever!

  3. Now see this beautiful light, to me, is a privilege! The colors you used are great together!
In these days of fog and rain I'm in the dark throughout the day: how artificial lights change life and paint! With a few exceptions (that charming , all noses up... looking blue sky) the autumn of the Po Valley is a pale gray neutral color!

    1. I remember how dreary England could be with days of continual drizzle. It is fabulous for the skin though if that is any consolation.
Glad you like the painting. I deliberately held back a bit on saturation to see if I could get the "feel" of sunrise as I find that it is usually more gentle than sunset.

Does that make sense to you?

  7. Julie, you absolutely captured the feel of a beautiful sunrise. Gorgeous!! It is one of my favorite times of the day although I usually see it over an ocean instead of the desert.

Thank you so much for you VERY nice comment about my painting post today. When someone with your talent gives me such a nice comment, it really makes my day and makes me want to RUN back to the easel again.

    1. I only saw the sunrise over the ocean when I was on the east coast. Lucky you!
Your blog comment was complementary because your sunflower knocked my socks off.

  8. Not really abstract but with the feeling of it, like sunrises actually are... at least to my eyes. The painting is absolutely beautiful, my favorite detail is the red touches at the bottom of the painting.
    Warm regards.

    1. Thanks and glad you liked the red touches. Deep red rock formations come alive with the sun hitting them at any time but when it is sunrise or sunset the color can amaze.
I really like your new painting.

  14. Nothing is as free to move as our atmosphere. But you have beautifully frozen a split second of its movement in your painting, Julie!
Painting is definitely an art, but knowing where to quit is an art in itself.
