My Red Robe
8x6in oil on canvas panel $125. SOLD
Day 7 in the.30 in 30 Days Challenge
My personal goal for this challenge - to paint only what I have
never painted or thought of painting before.
This time it is my old warm and comfortable red robe.
(painted before I left for the workshop)
Artist Note.
I was thrilled to read all the interesting comments regarding
the merits of painting large or small from yesterday's blog.
There is a comfort in knowing how others feel and it makes
me aware once again of the bond we all share with our love
of painting.
Thanks to all of you.
Guess who was the dunce of the workshop class today - yep...Moi!

Well each subject is unique, Julie, which convinces me it is the art and not just the subject matter that is important ... impressed!
ReplyDeleteDunce......hard to believe. And your bathrobe just helped create lively art. It's all good isn't it? The strong verticals really hold the painting....not to mention that vibrant red!
ReplyDeleteJulie! I've missed you! I've missed your art! I LOVE this painting and am so inspired by the challenge you have given yourself. It is such a beautiful red and it just hangs perfectly on the door there. The bottle is such a nice touch...the cherry on top. xoxo
ReplyDeleteLove how you have elevated a common scene to art! Beautifully composed and painted. I agree with Lisa about the bottle... perfectly placed and adds so much to the painting.
ReplyDeleteNice to see you featured on Taryn Day's 'The Art Room' blog! You deserve the recognition!
This is a great challenge - to paint what you have never painted before! You are able to set your own agenda really, which of course, takes pressure off. Have loved seeing your work. I would say, from seeing what you have done, that you Love Paint and you are not sparing with it, which of course is important, Paint is no good in the tube is it. Love this robe, and how you have placed the light.
ReplyDeleteYour theme is so much fun. I love this piece. I was already enthralled with your work, but this is my favorite so far. It is something about the grays in your work with a pop of color. Very Russian Impressionist.......
ReplyDeleteRed Robe,so impressive, just casual in appearance .. A pleasure visit your blog , read such comments, fueling an interesting conversation! Thanks,Julie!
ReplyDeleteThe subject is so intimate, and the painting so nice...
ReplyDeletewhat a fun painting! I too love the little bottle. so sweet! it makes me want to look closely.
ReplyDeleteNice one, Julie! Bottle works well and who would have thought to paint their bathrobe? FUN!
ReplyDeleteJulie, who would have thought to paint their bathrobe? Fun and cozy! Bottle works well too.
ReplyDeleteNo doubt what this is and it looks great. I like the fact that you do more or less fracturing depending on the subject.
ReplyDeleteIf this beautiful robe didn't belong to you, I could see myself wrapped up in it having my morning cup of tea! IT does look comfy. Colors are great.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe you were the dunce by the way you paint!!!! Another lovely work! I am tempted to try painting my hoover, he is called Henry!!
ReplyDeleteI love your last two posts, objects so everyday they are universal. Well painted and thought out!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting, Julie!
ReplyDeleteDear Julie - you make the ordinary extraordinary. Read your previous post too - I think I paint more freely on larger paintings but I do like the small works as well. I guess for me I don't noodle so much if the painting is larger. As always thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this painting, Julie! The handling of the red knocks my socks off and you have given this robe great importance. And the addition of the little bottle on the vanity top is a stroke of brilliance! What a gem for an 8x6!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful painting. Love the use of strong red and subtle green-greys around.
ReplyDeleteIf I had this robe, I'd live in it! if it's as soft, red, beautiful and inviting as the painting- it's priceless!
ReplyDeleteDunce? I think not. And this is just gorgeous! I'm thinking movie star...
ReplyDeleteI love this painting Julie! Your reds are always fabulous! All of your paintings draw me in. Love them all!
ReplyDeleteLooks as if you just froze a moment in time and place, Julie!
ReplyDeleteWell done!
This little painting has a lot to say in it's 8 X 6 format - I am so drawn to it. While I too love the red robe, I'm impressed with how you handled the neutrals around it - Beautiful!!! And dunce? Really? I don't think it's possible!!!
ReplyDeleteIts amazing how many subjects are around us..just turn around and you have a subject!!!! Wonderful colors!!
ReplyDeleteLove this, Julie! It really hits home. You've made this simple scene so elegant with the colors used and the arrangement of the pieces. Who cannot relate to this scene without a sense of familiarity?
ReplyDeleteA little piece of intimacy, gorgeously painted ! And the little bottle of perfume (I suppose) is exactly really put it all together. You really have a talent for the perfect compositions ! xx
ReplyDeleteThis is so lovely. The red robe seems to scream comfort. I love my visits to your blog as I always learn something valuable.
