My Red Robe

My Red Robe

8x6in oil on canvas panel  $125. SOLD

Day 7 in the.30 in 30 Days Challenge
My personal goal  for this challenge - to paint only what I have
never painted or thought of painting before.
This time it is my old warm and comfortable red robe.
(painted before I left for the workshop)

Artist Note.

I was thrilled to read all the interesting comments regarding
the merits of painting large or small from yesterday's blog.
There is a comfort in knowing how others feel and it makes
me aware once again of the bond we all share with our love
of painting.
Thanks to all of you.

Guess who was the dunce of the workshop class today - yep...Moi!

  1. Well each subject is unique, Julie, which convinces me it is the art and not just the subject matter that is important ... impressed!

  2. Dunce......hard to believe. And your bathrobe just helped create lively art. It's all good isn't it? The strong verticals really hold the painting....not to mention that vibrant red!

  3. Julie! I've missed you! I've missed your art! I LOVE this painting and am so inspired by the challenge you have given yourself. It is such a beautiful red and it just hangs perfectly on the door there. The bottle is such a nice touch...the cherry on top. xoxo

  4. Love how you have elevated a common scene to art! Beautifully composed and painted. I agree with Lisa about the bottle... perfectly placed and adds so much to the painting.

Nice to see you featured on Taryn Day's 'The Art Room' blog! You deserve the recognition!

  5. This is a great challenge - to paint what you have never painted before! You are able to set your own agenda really, which of course, takes pressure off. Have loved seeing your work. I would say, from seeing what you have done, that you Love Paint and you are not sparing with it, which of course is important, Paint is no good in the tube is it. Love this robe, and how you have placed the light.

  6. Your theme is so much fun. I love this piece. I was already enthralled with your work, but this is my favorite so far. It is something about the grays in your work with a pop of color. Very Russian Impressionist.......

  16. Dear Julie - you make the ordinary extraordinary. Read your previous post too - I think I paint more freely on larger paintings but I do like the small works as well. I guess for me I don't noodle so much if the painting is larger. As always thanks for sharing.

  17. I LOVE this painting, Julie! The handling of the red knocks my socks off and you have given this robe great importance. And the addition of the little bottle on the vanity top is a stroke of brilliance! What a gem for an 8x6!
