Artist Note

This painting was started after seeing 

the hollyhocks on my morning walk.

I came back with hubby who napped

 in the car while I got a start.

   I finished it at home.

I wonder if any of you still get my blog

because it has been almost

 three months since I last posted. 

I have never gone that long before.

AND...what months they have been.

Covid has turned them into 

an anxious time of worry 

for our loved ones and ourselves...

The lucky artist can work at home

 IF 

the creative drive is still flowing.

 I am happy 

to feel mine is slowly returning 

to where I am 

at least "thinking" painting

as I go about my day.

I am sending warmest wishes for 

safe and happier days 

while we adjust to the new norm.

Artist Note.

Most of you know how much

I love living here in the southwest 

and this is the painting which

got me back into the flow

of painting again

after having cataracts removed.

I feel like a whole new person.

 I am enjoying seeing clearly.

Life is good

... but the painting part of my life

has only just starting to flow 

instead

of hit and miss.

I have completed

several paintings 

and I am going to 

show them first in my newsletter.

It has been sadly neglected

so I am hoping to make amends.

The move to a new studio is finished!

Yea!

I will be putting up some photos of it, 

but first, I need to get the word out

  that I have had a cancellation for

my June 20th workshop 

so a slot is available.

3 Days + 3 HOURS
 WORKSHOP
oil or acrylic

Only 6 artists in the class.
I keep it small so everyone gets
the attention they need

June 20th - 22nd 
with the morning

of 23rd for wrap up
 and individual 

review and direction 
as needed.

$300.

All supports will be provided 

for the first day of

 technique exercises along

with a gift of my handy tool.

The workshop covers the best way

to use the fracturing technique

to suit the individual artist's  

own strengths and vision.

My personal color preferences

will be explained  with a lot of 

demos to make it easy to follow.

I love teaching and would be delighted

help you with your journey

into expanding your

painting skills.

White Ravens

White Ravens

 - another study!

8x10 watercolor on Yes canvas

Artist Note.

I am trying to paint something 

I see in my imagination.

I am using the Yes canvas 

because I can lift and scrub

 as long as I use 

non-staining paint.

I like the strong shapes of the 

Ravens reversed into white

against the dark background.

I want to capture 

what I see when the birds 

are moving

in between the

grasses or branches 

when they visit the pond. 

This  is almost what I am after.

Now I have to try it with oils.

I have been painting Ravens

in gouache to get familiar

with their shapes before painting 

them in oil.

I want them to look like Ravens, 

but not in a photographic way.

I found

it more difficult to paint

 the white ravens

and the pink one below

I think it was because I was 

forced to see them 

in a different way.

Every exploration leads to 

a discovery.

It is not an artist's block...

there is a root cause that I do not want 

to go into, and thankfully,

 I do know it will pass.
