Artist Note.
I always really enjoy my
workshops but this one
was extra special due
to the fun and talented artists
who all got on so well.
A true blessing.

On the first day 

I provide all the surfaces to

 do the fracturing exercises

and a black panel is one of them.

I sketched out the placement
with white chalk.

 Then I started adding
 the orange/yellow transition color

alongside the dark center.
Next, I added the

yellow and green shapes only.

Looking at the light and dark pattern

I then fractured 

 randomly 

with the handy tool.

Added background colors
remembering to use opposing
strokes and then I fractured
lightly again.

I follow the fracturing marks
using brush and knife...
Defining certain areas. 

Artists are encouraged to
bring it back according to
personal preference for
the amount of detail.

Artist Note.

This was started as a demo during the 

June workshop. 

I finished it a few weeks ago.

It is bright and cheerful and 

given as a wedding gift 

to a very dear friend's

granddaughter.

AND...

I did it!

I hibernated from all distractions
for over a month.

No visiting blogs or writing them.

I found I went thru 

major blogging withdrawals.

I went off social media, too,

and immersed myself into
painting for my November show.

I emerged with seven 

completed paintings from
48"x39" to 9"x12"
and 

several good starts.


I am now back in the classroom
and my busy, but stimulating
 life starts up again.
Can't wait to get around to
catch up on everyone's blogs.

Watercolor Pleasure

Artist Note.

From my nest collection... 

a little jewel 

with a turquoise strand 

woven through it

 adds a touch of color

against the neutral 

grasses and twigs.

I added Chinese White  

to my watercolors to add 

the body I like.

Aquabord is perfect for 

this, and takes a protective

wax finish beautifully.

My daughter and a friend 

are in to help celebrate

my birthday so I will be

having too much fun

to reply to any comments!

I know you understand.

I was invited to a cool mountain area

called Cloudcroft, NM.,

only a 90 min drive from where I live.

There is a Lodge with a large

pond filled with Koi fish and lily-pads.

Extra beautiful to my desert trained eyes.

Artist Note.

I took photos of the pond

and had to take areas out 

of several to get a decent design.

It is the lily which stars 

in the point of interest spot, 

yes -

deliberately placed high  middle 

- with the eye 

hopefully moving down the 

sky reflection

to the the fish.

Here is number two in my new series
It became more realistic than I wanted, but
that is part of exploration on a theme

Artist Note
In this one the crows became more
important.  Those little suckers are
not easy to do.
Took about ten wipe-offs on
such a small space.
I realize that they are going to
be one of the areas I will be exploring.
How not to get dorky crows!

What a difference a day makes.

This is the same arroyo and 

Pinion tree as previous post.

One moment, the day is sunny with 

temperatures in the 60's

and the next day ...snow!

The beauty of this area

is when the storm passes...

 out comes the sun again!

Obviously, this view is painted from

the other side of the pinion from 

the previous post and this time

is facing the hills of Santa Fe. 

I only did a few color notes on the canvas

and took photos because 

although it was sunny, my feet

got darn cold!

I am never a happy Julie with cold anything!
