Peacock Feathers With Roses

Peacock Feathers With Roses
7x5in oil on canvas panel  SOLD

Artist Note
The beauty of the rose always astounds me,
but place it next to a peacock feather and real
competition for the top spot happens.
The real dilemma for the artist is deciding
which one wins.
Rose or Peacock Feather?

This is a pick-up from an earlier post.
Pretty swamped catching up after family visit.

  1. Beautiful!!! Hmm... maybe the peacock feather wins...? :D
I love how you've made the background subdued, yet so full of colour that shows off the feathers.
I found a ruffed grouse tailfeather in the driveway the other day and thought of you and your feather paintings. Saving up a collection of my own now! :)

  2. Me thinks you've out done yourself on this painting missy! Feather without rose or vise versa would not make an outstanding painting. Both are beautiful and take center stage in their on right. Love this.

  6. The two go together so well, greatness is achieved. Wonderful color and composition. Wonderful--exceptional--choice of still life items.

  7. There is no competition - together they share center stage! What great and interesting subject matter - making for a most beautiful little painting!

  8. They are vying for my attention, and my attention keeps shifting. Back and forth, quite dynamic.

  9. The feather, no the rose, no the feather...doesn't matter, this piece is really special. I think this is one of my favourites :)

  11. I love the soft pink you have achieved here and many other times in your floral paintings...so for me the Rose wins. However the peacock feather is special too.

Loved your denim and broom painting and the description of your workshop. It would be so much fun and such a privilege to watch you work in person!

  14. Your work is so inspirational Julie. I do not get to keep up with blogs as well as I would like but I need to make sure I always check yours. You are so gracious to share so much information. And...to take the time to comment on other artists work including mine. Your words mean so much. Oh yeah, it was comforting to hear that YOU have had to scrub off a demo before.

  15. The peacock feathers are great "supporting cast" to the star of your show, which is the bigger rose, your focal point. But that's like starring Julia Roberts & Meryl Streep in same movie- both phenomenal!! .....box office gold if you ask me!

  16. LOVE, love, love this painting and can't wait to get it! Julie, when I first read about your "fracturing" I thought it was a little weird, but I tried it and guess what - it works! Of course I am still practicing. Thank you for your blog - it is my bible right now. You are a great teacher and very generous with your knowledge.

  19. I like how you've kept the detail subdued....just enough to give the feather an identity without becoming dominant.

  20. Julie - I think it is a tie - love those roses and love those peacock feathers. This is so very beautiful. I love the texture you have captured too. As always your painting is outstanding. Take care and have a great day.

  21. The feathers and roses reach rhythm, harmony of color shapes and textures, giving to the composition (in my eyes) an almost abstract quality ... where the amazing unity of the whole prevails and wins for beauty.

  22. What a great combination, they both look stunning next to each other!

  23. I do! I get to see them both in one fab painting.

  24. An inspired combination of beauty rivals vying for the spotlight. You've made them play nicely together in this painting, the colours aren't competing but each makes its own stand.
