Turquoise Leaf and Oleanders - day 23 in the Challenge

Turquoise Leaf and Oleanders

6x6in oil on canvas panel   SOLD

Day 23

I have loved this little leaf dish because the
glaze is so drop dead beautiful.
It gives the impression of caribbean water.
Glazes are something my mother excelled at
as a potter, and this is a color
she would have loved to have used.

Sun is out today - hooray!

  1. Julie I can certainly see why this sold. Wow I love the color of that leaf dish...fabulous painting. Sometime when you have more time you will have to tell me about your Mom's work. Have always loved dishes and pottery. Have a great day. Only a few more days until your challenge is finished. Great work!!

    1. Thanks Debbie - my mother took up pottery at a senior citizens center when she was 70 - hand slabbed because she had arthritis in her hands and could not use the wheel. Her work was unique and she poured glazed freely. She won a major prize in NYC at 72. Her teacher had entered her work secretly because she knew she had talent. She made me bowls for fruit and plates I still use to this day.
I really enjoyed your latest posting and seeing how you and hubby work as a creative team.

    1. Thank you - yes, it is coming to an end and I made it easier for myself this time by NOT having the same theme all month.
I paint every day anyway, but do not finish a painting every day. I have a lot of wipers.
Your new landscape is lovely and I have to say you live in a gorgeous area.

  6. This composition has terrific design--the flowers arching over the oval form of the vase, the sturdy horizontal of the table. There's a strong , firmly planted sensibility here that's reassuring.

High Art indeed. Pleased to see that you are stretching your skills and brain
      keeping mind-rot at bay.

    1. Thanks Padmaja,
my mother was a nurse and never had time to explore her talents until retirement when we found she had talent in spades. Before this happened my claim to my artistic bend had always been that we had a very amazing forger back in the family tree.
I tried to see your surfer painting but the screen did not work. I will return.

    1. Your are generous, Carol. Thank you.
You used 7 yellows in your flowers and I mixed 5 different shades of blues in this one. It makes it more interesting to count them and it was when I read your blog that I took note of how many I used.
