Turquoise Leaf and Oleanders
6x6in oil on canvas panel SOLD
Day 23
I have loved this little leaf dish because the
glaze is so drop dead beautiful.
It gives the impression of caribbean water.
Glazes are something my mother excelled at
as a potter, and this is a color
she would have loved to have used.
Sun is out today - hooray!

Julie I can certainly see why this sold. Wow I love the color of that leaf dish...fabulous painting. Sometime when you have more time you will have to tell me about your Mom's work. Have always loved dishes and pottery. Have a great day. Only a few more days until your challenge is finished. Great work!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Debbie - my mother took up pottery at a senior citizens center when she was 70 - hand slabbed because she had arthritis in her hands and could not use the wheel. Her work was unique and she poured glazed freely. She won a major prize in NYC at 72. Her teacher had entered her work secretly because she knew she had talent. She made me bowls for fruit and plates I still use to this day.
DeleteI really enjoyed your latest posting and seeing how you and hubby work as a creative team.
Interesting warm and cools. And yes, that turquoise is drop dead beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Helen - warms and cools - yes, for both of us.
DeleteYour new abstract of colors and shapes is powerful.
Looking forward to more.
Julie, simply lovely. Your challenge of 30 days is coming to an end. Great work, I tip my hat to all of you that stuck to the challenge. That had to be very difficult.
ReplyDeleteThank you - yes, it is coming to an end and I made it easier for myself this time by NOT having the same theme all month.
DeleteI paint every day anyway, but do not finish a painting every day. I have a lot of wipers.
Your new landscape is lovely and I have to say you live in a gorgeous area.
I love how you have positioned the flowers surrounding the dish in a casual way. It is a beautiful jewel-like color, love the painting!!
ReplyDeleteI am pleased you like it - thank you. Congratulations on your nomination.
DeleteI enjoyed reading about your process, Celia, and you chose a great artist. It was a very enjoyable visit.
The green "glaze" is so good for the spirit!
ReplyDeleteLovely painting.
Thank you Martine. Loved your abstract. Both you and Helen surprised me.
DeleteHappy Birthday!
This composition has terrific design--the flowers arching over the oval form of the vase, the sturdy horizontal of the table. There's a strong , firmly planted sensibility here that's reassuring.
ReplyDeleteSuch a neat and welcome comment, Linda, thank you.
DeleteI am fascinated following the steps of your "Venetian School " painting/project.
High Art indeed. Pleased to see that you are stretching your skills and brain
keeping mind-rot at bay.
The color and composition looks awesome Julie, now I know you inherited your mom's talent! What an inspirational lady, reading about her gave me hope for myself. Thanks for sharing in the first comment.
ReplyDeleteThanks Padmaja,
Deletemy mother was a nurse and never had time to explore her talents until retirement when we found she had talent in spades. Before this happened my claim to my artistic bend had always been that we had a very amazing forger back in the family tree.
I tried to see your surfer painting but the screen did not work. I will return.
That Turquoise is truly beautiful Julie! An excellent painting!!
ReplyDeleteHi Hilda - are you back into your routine after traveling? I love the way you always find words to make me feel good. thank you.

DeleteI enjoyed visiting your blog very much.
Oh that dish is INDEED gorgeous! I love the color myself (and that it is a leaf takes it over the top)!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sherry - You did a great job on the motorbike and I liked the way you framed it.
DeleteLove those colors, Julie!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol. I just saw your new post and love the teapot.
DeleteFunny because I just painted my red teapot today and am also in a stripe stage so we are quite the twins.
Julie, missed your blog this summer and am so delighted that you are back in full force. AND to begin with 30 day challenge! Wow. As you know, I love your work and appreciate your sharing your colors, techniques, and vision.
ReplyDeleteSo VERY good to hear from you ,Mary.
Deletethanks for such a positive message.
That glaze on the dish looks so real, it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen. The real glaze is amazing to see.
DeleteI love the couple you painted. You have solved the problem I always have of the placement of two people side by side, in a painting
Gotta love tourquoise!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon. Love your china plate.
DeleteWhat a stunning combination of colors, Julie. You've combined both hard and soft elements in this which is very appealing.
ReplyDeleteYour are generous, Carol. Thank you.
DeleteYou used 7 yellows in your flowers and I mixed 5 different shades of blues in this one. It makes it more interesting to count them and it was when I read your blog that I took note of how many I used.
