Day 11

Every day this week I am painting interiors
for the 30 in 30 Challenge.

This one is in a friend's home
in Corrales, near Albuquerque.
The kiva, adobe style fireplace is common
in the old homes in New Mexico and
are so popular that many of the new homes
have them.

Artist Note.
My first oil in the Challenge.
I was going to paint in watercolor for a month
but started to miss my oils.
It feels good to feel some texture.
I guess I will be using both.

  2. As always your paintings are just beautiful. I know what you mean about missing oils, the texture can't be beat. Love the way you have many colors in the same value.

  8. Oh my goodness...that is a stunning room. Wishing I could sit with my friend by that cozy fire discussing oil paint vs watercolor.

  9. Love the way color bounces around in this painting. The rug! That spot of purple on the fireplace. Wonderful idea for a theme... interiors.

  10. Feel as if I could sit in that chair with a cup of Earl Grey. What atmosphere you get! Thanks Julie.

  11. Doesn't matter what medium you use Julie - they are always so beautiful. Hard to think about needing a fireplace in New Mexico but I am sure it gets cold there as well. Just beautiful painting friend. Have a great week-end.

  14. I, too, have had the urge and your paintings this week have made it stronger. While interiors can look cozy , I think they can look lonely without some life form. The blazing fire makes this one inviting --like the occupant of the chair just left the room for a minute. The fire says there's more to the story.

  15. Julie:

OMG I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this! I love everything you do, but this one is extra special - the color, the composition - all of it. I used to love sitting in those leather chairs when I lived in Mexico. Brings back memories. Just beautiful. You inspire me so much!
