Roses in Ancient Glass
Roses in Ancient Glass
6x6in oil on canvas board SOLD
This is another beautiful, ancient piece from my collection of Roman glass.
Artist Note:
I wanted to try to paint a similar set up as in yesterday's blog, but try using a more painterly technique. I want to paint it with a knife tomorrow.
I still had the light directly overhead but these are silk roses so I didn't have to worry about them wilting from the heat. I did not use an under-painting this time but went for Transparent Brown adding some Ultramarine Blue where I wanted it really dark. I always try to use a transparent color for my dark areas because they seem to glow more. I painted the vessel over the background color and lifted off the roses and cloth area with a damp brush before painting them. The fringe was painted last.

Beautiful painting! Wonderful colors. You have made me very interested in Roman glass.
ReplyDeleteI love the color scheme of your glass paintings. The "many tints and shades" of white. The darks do seem to glow!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! This would make a great large piece!
