White Geraniums - Study

White Geraniums - Study

8x6in  oil on  linen canvas $125.

Day 18

These beautiful white geraniums caught my eye.

Artist Note

This study is painted on Senso linen canvas.
I love this product because it is finished with a
clear gesso allowing the natural linen color
to become part of the painting - perfect for
a vignette like this.

  1. Funnily enough, I actually wondered if that the was the natural linen on the bottom left side of the painting. This has such a 3 dimensional look that is really aided by leaving some of that linen blank like that. As well as the painting depth itself. Another beauty, Julie! How DO you do it!!??

  2. I particularly like the way you painted the petals of the white geraniums. The strokes look thick, strong, and placed there just once.

The canvas is indeed an gorgeous addition. I add never heard of it nor clear gesso. Thank you for sharing.

  7. You are always so interesting, Julie, and I always learn something from your blog! I had not heard of Senso! I, too, love the petals of the geraniums, the bits of color to bring out the white. Lovely!

  9. I appreciate all the more your hydrangeas I know these flowers. They grow everywhere here, most are blue, some are pink or purple but all have pretty color gradients. You managed well to highlight these beautiful shades of color. Kisses.

  14. I just love the way the unfinished linen peeks through on this piece. I'm not sure why I love unfinished parts of paintings so much-perhaps it's because they allow my mind to fill in and interpret those areas, or perhaps because I enjoy seeing some of the underlying artistic process that leads to a wonderful painting. Whatever the reason, I love this painting. Just beautiful!

  20. Love this one!! Adore painting vignette style and you nailed this! I like the senso but worry about if it is okay for oils? Did you have to put any additional gesso? Always looking to learn!
