White Geraniums - Study
White Geraniums - Study
8x6in oil on linen canvas $125.
Day 18
These beautiful white geraniums caught my eye.
Artist Note
This study is painted on Senso linen canvas.
I love this product because it is finished with a
clear gesso allowing the natural linen color
to become part of the painting - perfect for
a vignette like this.

Funnily enough, I actually wondered if that the was the natural linen on the bottom left side of the painting. This has such a 3 dimensional look that is really aided by leaving some of that linen blank like that. As well as the painting depth itself. Another beauty, Julie! How DO you do it!!??
ReplyDeleteI particularly like the way you painted the petals of the white geraniums. The strokes look thick, strong, and placed there just once.
ReplyDeleteThe canvas is indeed an gorgeous addition. I add never heard of it nor clear gesso. Thank you for sharing.
Beautifully painted, Julie. I love all those colors in the flowers.. love it!!!
ReplyDeleteI love how you incorporate the color of the linen in this painting. Beautiful knife work!
ReplyDeleteLove the look of this little gem, Julie!! Definitely have to get some Senso!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful painting, Julie. The composition and color are striking and I love the way you used the natural linen as part of the work.
ReplyDeleteYou are always so interesting, Julie, and I always learn something from your blog! I had not heard of Senso! I, too, love the petals of the geraniums, the bits of color to bring out the white. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteSmashingly beautiful color and brushwork, as usual. LOVE the linen showing through, Julie.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate all the more your hydrangeas I know these flowers. They grow everywhere here, most are blue, some are pink or purple but all have pretty color gradients. You managed well to highlight these beautiful shades of color. Kisses.
ReplyDeletevery nice, I love the colors & the effect of the linen...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful rendering of our house flower. I like your play of colors in the petals.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Julie! and thanks for sharing about the materials.
ReplyDeleteWow! really beautiful on this clear-gessoed linen. I would have loved to been watching to see your decision making process in this one! Great effect!!
ReplyDeleteI just love the way the unfinished linen peeks through on this piece. I'm not sure why I love unfinished parts of paintings so much-perhaps it's because they allow my mind to fill in and interpret those areas, or perhaps because I enjoy seeing some of the underlying artistic process that leads to a wonderful painting. Whatever the reason, I love this painting. Just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautifully painted! Thanks for the tip on the Senso linen canvas. I'll have to check that out.
ReplyDeleteIt's a wonderful mix of a natural texture against the delicate white blooms. Very nice!
ReplyDeleteOh, Julie - I am just catching up on your recent work and so glad to do so! The flowers! The feathers! The eggs! You are such an exceptional artist - your work stands out and is always, always beautifully fascinating! I also want to remark on your unique compositions - what a delight!
ReplyDeleteI bought some of this linen canvas after the last time you used it and I also love working on it. You put the perfect amount of color in those white geraniums. Very nice....

ReplyDeleteLove the natural linen color! Beautiful warm and cool neutrals in this Julie...and of course white flowers are a favorite of mine! Great design too!!
ReplyDeleteLove this one!! Adore painting vignette style and you nailed this! I like the senso but worry about if it is okay for oils? Did you have to put any additional gesso? Always looking to learn!
