Watercolor Weekend - White Poppies

White Poppies

12x8in watercolor  NFS

DAY 30 - hip hip...hurrah!

This is almost finished. It needs a little tweaking...
adding and subtracting here and there.
I will have to live with it for a few more days,
but I can see a couple of things right now!
Nothing like getting it on the screen to see the
weak spots.

Artist note
This one is larger than my usual size
and so it was easy to find some totally
abstract areas.

I sometimes use these areas to get
inspiration for future paintings.

Thanks to all of you who have followed
me through the Leslie Seata's 30 in 30 challenge.
I was proud to have been associated with so many
wonderful artists. I have also enjoyed discovering
inspirational talent and I hope you have too.

I must admit to being relieved it is over.
Two and a half years ago when I first started daily
painting, I did not work as many hours as I do now
and that made it easier to keep up. This has been fun,
but not always easy, so if I say I am going to do her
next challenge, please remind me not to do it.

I am going to take a couple of days off and visit blogs!

  1. I would never sign up for a painting a day challenge. I know that I just cannot manage them. LOL I'm so proud of all of you who do them though. This piece is another beauty, Julie. I do so love that vase!

  2. Congratulations on completing the 30 paintings...and doing it well! This is a fascinating w/c with so many interesting spots, your incredible vase and poppies, your abstract areas (still trying to figure out how you did that). Wonderful work!

  7. Hi Julie, congratulations on getting through the challenge and beautifully, too, I might add. In fact, I found your paintings to be some of the very best I saw in the challenge and will continue to follow you. I am so glad it is over, too, as I finally had to quit a few days ahead as other matters required too much attention. I don't think I will ever do it again....I prefer longer time to work on paintings and larger works, but it was fun and I sure learned a lot. Keep up your good work and so glad we "met". Egretta

  9. Watercolor too? Just beautiful (such a tender pink)! I will certainly NOT remind you not to do it again! (even though it was fun to read that...I found it challenging too, but rewarding...and it was so great to connect with you Julie...don't know how you found time to do that with so many as well).

  10. Congratulations on finishing the challenge Julie! At one point I stopped commenting but I kept up with your paintings on a daily basis. I ran out of innovative ways to tell how beautiful your works is. This last watercolor is delightful! Beautiful loose areas and I love the red, white and blue colors against the golds and greens. A very elegant composition.

  11. Your finale is spectacular given the stress of such a challenge. Bravo. Daily painting is acceptable, but finished? I would pass. Second looks are a necessity with me. And publishing "in progress" really does point out the tweaks that are needed. To me, posting has become part of the process.

  12. Time for some breathing room but you made it and what a wonderful painting. I really like the abstract areas. It makes me think about my own work and where I can be more loose. I want to get where you are...maybe someday.

  13. I love the quietness of this painting. It is gentle and restful. Maybe that is what I need now. The abstract areas enhance the painting so much. It will be fun to see how you take this down the road. The first part of the painting I noticed was the little green vase in front. It shines.
And now I am also going to paint "larger" as I missed doing that.

  14. Holy cow!! The layers in this are so fascinating! I'm still trying to imagine the 'fracturing' method with watercolor. I really love the dreaminess of the back ground, yet your focal point is so strong; great yet subtle contrasts here! I'd love to have been watching from a 'spy-cam' on this one!

  15. Julie - your watercolors are as beautiful as your oils...you are so talented my friend. I love poppies...ours in Ohio are way past blooming...so glad to see yours. Have a great day. Thanks too for stopping by my blog to visit. Always enjoy reading your comments. Take care - hugs!

  16. Your watercolors make me swoon. I like the painting as is, but you are the creator! I have the same feeling--relieved, proud, exhausted, etc. For now, I am saying "No More Leslie's 30 in 30 Challenge!" But when December comes around and my friends all sign up, I will forget all about the battle fatigue and sign up too!

  19. Oh, Julie - What a beautiful painting to complete the challenge. I think the thing I've enjoyed most about this challenge is becoming better acquainted with you and your work. You're truly an inspiration. Your paintings are beautiful, and your kindness and willingness to share has been appreciated more than you can know. I feel like you're a true friend that I've never had the pleasure to meet. I'll be visiting your blog often. Many thanks and warmest regards.
